It’s not in the bill. Foreign aid in general is very good and efficient, even if specific instances of foreign aide should be terminated.

^I see now it was another bill they snuck in right before the relief bill. That makes it even tackier because they thought the 600 dollar bill would steal the spotlight and no one would notice. Well people noticed and noticed so hard they conflated it with the COVID bill.

Foreign aid is nice but not in the context of a country claiming it can't afford to support its people during a pandemic. Under that pretext, no foreign aid is acceptable.

Americans are starving, out of work, and thousands of dollars behind on rent with no affordable health insurance and buried in student loan debt. We have a government claiming it can't afford to alleviate any of those immediate problems while simultaneously handing out money around the world. People from left to right are saying hell no.

Yeah, it definitely wasn’t “snuck” in there. It’s an omnibus spending bill to prevent the government from shutting down that was combined with the Covid relief bill, WITH the administration’s blessing.

I say "snuck in" because I don't remember seeing anything in the media or any of congress talking about the details of the spending in this. I could have just missed it, but I dont remember seeing anyone calling for cuts to the total cost or debating the impact foreign aid would have on the deficit. Just that it was passed with a supermajority which is weird because it happened while they were simultaneously debating how little aid they could give americans.

Its odd that Trump was the first person who questioned or even spoke of anything in it.

Also odd that almost every line item later questioned or seen as unacceptable by Trump was literally in Trump’s own budget proposal with almost identical $ amounts!

The White House was involved in negotiations for the defense appropriations, covid relief and omnibus bills. No one there should be surprised by what's in them, regardless of the news coverage.

The only odd thing is Trump waiting until the bills were passed to complain about their contents (and it's really not odd at all).

I would just prefer to somehow see more targeted spending for the $600. I certainly appreciate the 2400 my family will be receiving, but my wife and I have both been blessed to have kept our jobs throughout this whole mess.

On the flipside, my wife works in accounting for a company that hires a lot of lower-wage employees (12-14/hr) and they are having a very hard time filling positions right now because a lot of the folks that were laid off aren't accepting jobs right now. Is it because they are getting paid more to not work? I don't know.
