We're driving, since we live only a few hours away.

As for the $50 or less cuts in the Raleigh area, well I just WISH I could get a decent cut for that. But I go to this lady in NYC and it's going to be a minimum of $100. I think it'd be hard to find somebody I trust (a big issue for me) in this area that charges any less than $75.

"Ladies, I have started taking a beginner sewing class and I have to pick out my first project I'll be working on by Tuesday. I am excited

The teacher suggested we use a paper pattern rather than an online one for our first project so I'm cruising around Simplicity and McCall's websites right now.

The question is, what do you think I should do for the first project:

1) A cute tote bag I can use when buying stuff at the farmer's market.
2) An apron (teacher said these are good first projects and current cooking apron is fugly )
3) Yoga pants (because you can never have enough lounge around the house pants lol)
4) Something else

If any of you know of a specific easy pattern that is awesome I'd love to see them too!"

do the tote or the apron. The yoga pants dont seem as fun

tote and apron would be easier, as you won't have to worry about sizing (I am guessing the apron is more of a S-M-L deal). Even off of patterns, sizing pants to fit you just right might not be the best first project.

[If the pants are the skin-hugging yoga pants, that is. If they are just loose, straight leg, casual cotton pants, then it'd be simple enough.]

Unless you cook a lot AND use an apron while cooking, you should do a tote. You'll probably get more use out of it.

I really want to go to them so I don't have to pay ridiculous salon prices for color, but they're only open when I'm at work, boooo. But for haircuts I go to a place in Sterling that's not bad, and at $35 it's one of the cheaper ones I've found.

anyone have a good dermatologist? preferably female, but doesn't have to be cause its for my arm. i saw a doctor (who went to ncsu) when i was in HS. can't remember his name but worked at a dermatology place off lake boone by rex hospital.

i'm really really really scared to go, but need to because i have not one but 3 odd shaped, raised, scabby moles. sigh. plus, i haven't been in years and have fair skin, lots of freckles and moles so...probably ought to get the rest of me checked out while i'm there.

I fell in love with those aprons Sam posted a while back and asked my parents for one for Christmas. We finally got to actually have our Christmas this weekend and I got this one

My mom also gave me some certificates to DSW because I had told her I wanted a pair of brown boots. I figured for sure they would have a simple pair of knee-high dark brown leather boots, but the only ones they had were too big for me in the smallest size they made. So I found these on the clearance rack. Normally I am pretty conservative with my shoes and stay with simple ones in black/brown or otherwise sort of boring. But for some reason I really liked these. Right now I probably only have the courage to wear them under jeans/pants though.

What do y'all think? If I wear these with a skirt will I look like an '80s hooker?

After DSW we went by a thrift store to poke around and kill some time. I walked by the shoe rack and saw a pair of brown boots that was exactly what I had been looking for. I didn't get my hopes up because I figured there was no way they would be in my size. But they were, and they fit perfectly, and are in wonderful condition. They are Nine West, and were $4.

Skwink, you will straight up love that apron... I think my favorite thing is that the fabric doesn't absorb stuff right away so its easy to brush a lot of stuff off and/or wash it without it getting stained

I used to go to Blue Ridge Dermatology Associates. Once I get insurance again I'm going to go back to them to get some stuff checked out.

They were good for basic medical stuff (I had moles checked out). What they were NOT good about the last time I was there in 2006 was their follow-up. If you want specifics feel free to PM
me.

^^ they aren't multiplying though. i've had them a long time and they used to look like normal moles. just been neglecting my health and whatnot. probably not a good idea, but you know.

hopefully these check out. maybe they are just warts, but i doubt it since they've always been there.

justtttt a little worrisome. but i have freckles and lots of moles anyway and haven't been to a dermatologist in probably 10 years so probably good to go anyway. better safe than sorry i guess.

thanks blue ridge derm accepts my insurance so i'll try calling them! i used to go to dermatology pros (eric challgran...but only went once so its not like i have attachment to that place, plus i went for acne like 10 years ago so...yea, i just want someone good)!

While I have a picture up, I am going to get my hair did soon. It looks like crap and I need more bounce in the pathetic strands without going too short. Suggestions?

I think they run true to size at the beginning but then they stretch as you wear them and set your groove. Not too bad but I have to say mine are the most comfortable shoes ever.

GET THEM, CASEY!!!!!! I want them if you don't get them. ha!

Ladies, I have a bit of a predicament. I'm going on the first vacation with the boyfriend and I'm VERY limited as to what I can pack. Could def use some advice on how to pack smart, versatile items that can last the entire weekend in Delray Beach, Florida. My workout clothing will take up a bit of room. I get one small duffle bag. Here's what I need:

Daytime Attire
He's playing a tennis tournament, so I need clothing that will be comfortable yet cute for 12 hours outside in 70-degree weather

Evening/Date Attire
We'll go out in downtown Delray or Boca and I definitely want to look sexy, yet casual for date nights since this is our first vaca.

Meet The Folks Attire
This is the most difficult part. I haven't met a bf's parents in probably 5 years. I want to look nice, tasteful, cute and age-appropriate (I'm 27 ... he's 28). We'll likely meet at the tournament and possibly do dinner or just hang out at his house. What's good to wear when meeting parents?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

^^ You're only there for the weekend? Two pants, two shirts, one dress, bra, panties, shoes that will match all those outfits, BOOM! done

Though you probably shouldn't take advice from me. When I rent backpacking around SE Asia for 25 days all I packed was a backpack this big:

Everyone was all in my group when I showed up but I got the last laugh when everyone else was constantly bitching about dragging around their suitcases and one guy's luggage got lost on the flight from Hue to Ho Chi Minh

^ thx! I backpacked costa rica for 2 wks with a bag like that. It rocked, but I get a smidge more packing space this time and I will use it bc Delray and Boca Raton are a bit more fashionable/formal. And it's a five-day, four-night extended weekend.

Mostly concerned about looking nice when meeting the parents.

if its going to be warm, little dresses are your friend. they squeeze down really small. just pick one with slightly more coverage for the day you meet the parents. I'd pick one pair of nice shoes that can go with all the "dressy" outfits, then bring a couple of tees and shorts and some more casual shoes. maybe sneaks and a track suit if you're going to try to get in a run or two

^^ ahh yeah if it's 5 days you might need more clothes

Today I have to pick out my pattern for my sewing class. I decided to go with a supermarket tote since it will be quick and easy and I can move on to something else by the next class.

Which one do you guys like the most?

well i fucking LOVE that orange and brown poppy print. but those bags at the bottom are the coolest. you probably don't really need the pattern for the tote in the middle. just slap some trapezoids together and attach that ish to a little rectangle of strong material for the bottom. use the same ones to line it. the straps are rectangles folded over.

Daytime Attire - 70 degrees is tricky. if you're sitting right in the sun, it can feel really hot but if you're in the shade or it's overcast, it could feel cool/comfortable. i would suggest maybe some skinny jeans and a casual top and some nice shoes. i have never been to a tennis tournament so i don't know what's appropriate.

Evening/Date Attire - Dresses! so easy to pack and lightweight. Pack a pair of cute heels

Meet the Parents - I am inclined again to go with a dress (like a wrap dress) and some cute heels or boots.

^^^ Agreed with the comment on the orange and brown poppy print. That's super cute!

^ Alright ... time to raid the dress closets. My roomie and I are the same size, so we throw all of our dresses into a couple of closets in our wine room and just share everything. A dress is prob best for meeting the rents.

Maybe this dress for meeting the folks? Or the same dress in solid green? I never know what type of jacket to pair with a maxi dress bc it ends up being so much fabric and you can look completely shapeless with the wrong top. Maybe a shrug or cardigan?

She fixed my bangs and trimmed my hair, so nothing drastic... but I was pretty stoked about only spending $36 for a shampoo, cut, style, a bottle of shampoo, AND tip (I gave her $10)

So here is me dancing with my new 'do
