Quote :
"St. Louis led 12-0 in the third when a foul ball hit into the stands by Matthews got more attention than anything on the field.

In the ensuing scramble, a husky man jumped over a row of seats and pinned a 4-year-old boy against the seats with his legs while diving to get the ball. To no avail, fans started chanting "Give him the ball! Give him the ball!"

But the boy, who wasn't injured, ended up with much more than one ball. In the next few minutes, both teams sent bats and balls to the boy, including Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders coming out between innings to do so.

"In my heart, I thought I should do something," said Sanders, who initially saw the incident on the clubhouse TV. "It's all about the kids."

There was also a little extra for the man who got the ball, but he left two innings later and never received the Cardinals T-shirt on which "Tough Guy" and "Ball Stealer" was written by reliever Steve Kline."

i've been saying pujols would give us at least 2 or 3 pennants in this contract, but i didn't think it would be the first year...

i think the boys need to start saving for rings...

Fuck you Cardinals... fuck you.

Considering how many injuries the Cubs have endured this year (Wood, Prior, Sosa, Grudzie, Remlinger, Gonzalez)... just 2 games out of first place is damn good. Central is going to be tight.

Injuries are part of the game. Woody Williams has been playing injured all year (you know, our #2 pitcher). I really believe the Cards have won the Series a couple years ago if not for constant injuries to JD Drew and the death of Darryl Kile. But big deal, you move on. The Cards sure didn't miss a beat when Pujols went down for a week ealier this year. It's all about players stepping up, and I really feel the Cards have more depth than anyone in the game right now.

Go Cards... woot!

Another W for the Redbirds

I was just lookin at the boxscore, does anyone know why Edmonds didn't play CF or even DH?

Is he hurt or just taking a night off?

ps Scott Rolen is a beast

"Rolen was 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth. He also triggered a roar from the crowd in the eighth when he knocked both shortstop Angel Berroa and second baseman Tony Graffanino to the ground while trying to break up a double play.

The 240-pound Rolen, who managed to keep his feet while sending the Royals sprawling, had been hit by a pitch in the third and nearly hit on a pickoff attempt at first.

``He was an aggravated player at that point,'' Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said

Don't forget, three days left to make Edgar, Albert, Scott, Jimmy, and whoever else all-stars.

Vote up to 25 times at http://www.mlb.com

Last I checked Adam Everett was beating Edgar by like 9000 votes (725k - 716k).

Jason Marquis has a six-game hitting streak going, during which he is 9-for-14
