i dont think it was a beef.

I was surprised that the first black character to be introduced has "nigger" in his name.
I think the show does a great job of showing period racism, though. 4/5/2005 2:37:52 PM |

I was expecting him to get blown away by the end of the episode. I don't really care for the character all that much, he seems too unrealistic and extreme as an unfeeling businessman. 4/12/2005 11:25:56 AM |

it was the head of that dirt worshiper from the first season
who do you think he was talking to in that 'monologue' ?
yes walcott needs to die, and I hope Cy kills him b/c you know he is gonna go after Joanie.
Looks like a cat fight next week, I would definatley take Alma in that one.
WTF has been happening to Jane?

I thought it was funny that the description that my cable box gave me a few weeks back refered to a "Samuel Fields". It took me a while to realize that Time Warner would probably have to put that instead of "Nigger General." 4/20/2005 10:12:25 AM |

season finale was awesome.
My favorite part is at the wedding when Jane slugs this guy and says "what are you looking at?", and the guy replies from the ground, "I ain't looking at you!"

Hell of an episode.
Wolcott - dead Lee - dead Cy - stabbed by preacher Alma & Ellsworth - married
I was wondering if they would change the character of Seth Bullock now that he's had to go through his step-son/nephew being killed and his former lover getting married. He seemed like a bit of a drunk at the end of the finale. I half hope that they pursue this and turn him into a drunkard sherrif haunted by his past. Bullock just always struck me as much more two dimensional than the rest of the characters. 5/23/2005 11:58:09 AM |

No he didn't. Drinking on a bad day != drunk, and it would be fucking stupid to change his character as you suggest.

That's because he is. Are you familiar with the concept of a foil? Al is the main character in the show.

He's a fucking stupid character as is. I'll be fine with any changes. I hope that they drop the optimistic sheriff focused on being fair bit.

More 2D than any other character, not just Al.

I thought for the longest time that Wolcott was actually going to turn out to be Jack McCall (I know the actor is the same), but I 'spose not. Still intrigued me though ... 5/24/2005 4:07:52 PM |

^^^Good point; I hope he's gone.

Yeah, he overshadows most of the other characters, although the show is not based on Al. Note that the show is called "Deadwood" not "The Gem".
Regardless, this is the dumbest argument that I've ever been a part of on tww. 5/24/2005 8:48:37 PM |
t bizkits Veteran 132 Posts user info edit post |
^ I agree, he's definitely the strongest character and does overshadow, but I mean the show was fine for a couple of episodes when he was barely in it, even when he wasn't sick there was an episode where I don't think he even made an appearance. 5/25/2005 9:43:39 AM |

Nobody thought the profanity was taken to a ridiculous level on this show? It kinda takes me out of it. People cussed back then, but I'm fairly certain cocksucker wasn't even used until closer to the turn of the century, going into 1900. 4/9/2018 11:43:02 PM |
