well hip hop and rap have come mostly from black urban roots, and the black community has some of the strongest anti-gay sentiment of any ethnicity. (not saying that they are hateful, but more blacks disapprove of homosexuality as a percentage of their ethnic category than those who disapprove in the white communities)

i believe this is mainly due to the strong religious roots of many black families, and the innate value systems from those religious tenets. (primarily southern baptist roots)

Actually whites have many more abortions than whites and blacks are more likely to carry the child to term. Blacks attend church at a higher rate than whites. There are more whites on welfare than blacks. I don't see how blacks are more liberal in cases dealing with freedom of speech than any other group, seeing as how the most famous cases are ones like Larry Flynt vs. Fawell and Ward Churchill's inflammatory remarks about 9/11. Anyone who studies African American history, knows that religion has played a huge part, many of the most prominent Black leaders are men who are ministers (MLK, Malcolm X, Farrakan, Sharpton, etc.) Blacks do tend to be more socially conservative-believing in traditional values. That is different from the fact that blacks are liberals in a classic sense-believing that government and not the private sector/individualism can solve most of society's problems. The two are different and should not be confused.

That says absolutely nothing about their beliefs on abortion. I can believe in a woman's right to choose, but never personally have an abortion.

Obviously, there are more whites in the US than blacks. If you compared the percentage of blacks on welfare versus the percentage of whites on welfare your statement would not relfect a skewed statistic.

I'm a black person whose parents both went to segregated schools until the ninth grade, and the majority of black people from that generation and a sizable number from ours are pretty socially conservative on issues (abortion, gay marriage, etc.) Many of the families that I have know over the years have daughters that have chosen to keep their children because they are morally opposed to abortion. I never said that Democrats are anti-religon (because I am one) so I don't no why you would suggest that I did.
Hell, the Minority Leader of the Senate, Harry Reid of Nevada is a pro-life Mormon.

Free Speech is something that is supported by many segments of society, from Howard Stern and the ACLU to hardcord libertarians and is not, at least in my estimation,
a distinctly black issue.

Terms such as "Conservative" and "Liberal": have both classic and contemporary meanings that don't necessarily stick to one party. Before LBJ and the civil rights movenment, some of the most conservative members of the country were the Southern Democrats, who had been tied to the party since the New Deal. Blacks, from what I've seen and expeirenced by living my entire life as a black man, tend to be conservative on lots of social issues.
