You might have some luck finding an off-season apartment down at Carolina Beach. try http://www.islandgazette.net and see if their classifieds have anything. We found one down there for a year lease back in may, and next may we hope to have a house to move into.

What part of Wilmington will you be working in?

<--grew up there

you do not want to live downtown, trust me

try lookin for places off of 17th Extension/Shipyard Blvd. Nice townhomes that are supposedly not too expensive

also:
if you haven't been to PT's Grill on College Road yet, you are missing out

best cheap lunch in Wilmington

PT's is really good. I've been here since May '05, and I absolutely love it. I work downtown, but there is no way I would ever live downtown. My fiancee and I are looking for houses around Myrtle Grove and over in Leland. My favorite breakfast is The Bagel Oven Cafe on Princess. My office buys from there every Friday. Just a great breakfast and an excellent price....

man i think living downtown rocks, i don't know about you guys. i walk to work and ride my bike down to the river, and there's a ton of restaurants and bars around the corner, and i haven't experienced any sort of crime at all, with the police station being almost right across the street....downtown is being revitalized in a big way. there's a 6 story condo/apartment building going up at 2nd and walnut...PPD...lots of other stuff in the works. it just needs a little park space here and there.

There's a park across the street (5th street) from my office, but in the evening it is full of crack addicts....

lol, I've never really paid attention to the street signs at my office. I just know it's at the corner of 5th and Chestnut. I usually eat lunch along the riverwalk.

For all of you Wilmingtonians....

I'm trying to rent my house in Carolina Beach out. I've got 3 months left on my lease but i'm moving out because I just bought a house. You won't me subleasing from me, you'll be signing a new lease with the property management company (good folks, BTW)

Two blocks from the beach, two bedroom, two bath, elevated deck, big fenced in yard. It's a small house but you can't beat the location, especially during the summer..

$850

PLEASE TAKE THIS PLACE OFF MY HANDS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO PAY RENT AND MORTGAGE AT THE SAME TIME.

I already rent at Kure.... If I didn't already though, it would be a steal considering my rent....

I can't wait to own a house down here. I know it won't be at the beach though (lots from the 300k is out of my range). I'm looking in either Brunswick Co. or Myrtle Grove....

The Bagel Oven is in the old Ken's location according to my boss. Also, I kinda like Penders' flapjacks....

Wilmington is 35 miles from me, but it's the closest place to go to Lowe's, etc... I may ride down there tonight for supper.

If I had unlimited funds, I would eat at the Bridge Tender every day. Man, they have the best beef brisket around.

I really don't like too many of the places on the island. I'll eat at the Hula Grill or Michaelangelo's, but other than that I cook my own when I'm near the house.

ate there once, not too impressed. I'm not into seafood, so my judgement is skewed. I'm sure that their food is excellent.

potentially moving to wilmington from atlanta later this year - recommended areas to focus on?

want to have a relatively easy drive to the beach - less than 15 minutes but preferably closer

my wife's sister is near masonboro loop rd and her parents are near carolina beach rd and sanders - proximity to both would be nice as well but if it came to beach or family then beach wins

good schools with elementary being the strongest focus

single family house less than 450k - open to new construction / can be flexible on timing - need 5 bedrooms or 4 with an office - fine with a perfect house that needs a partial remodel as long as the price reflects that

Look at the crime maps.

I think Sanders Rd is a good option. There is a new shopping center going up not far with all the typical suburb shit you want. http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20151029/ARTICLES/151029621

I know two AWESOME realtors in the area if you need a referral.

I'd go around mason boro or Greenville loop if i were you. I wouldnt want to raise a family on the beach it's too wild and traffic is a nightmare if you have to leave the island during the weekend. Not a good family environment.
