Education system in India is good at the elementary middle and high school level. Most organizations dont invest in research because the competition in Indian market is about product quality and it's ability to last long and price wars. People dont buy innovative products in bulk quantity simply because they cant afford them. So the industry is not involved in bleeding edge research. And hence, the universities dont have good graduate level education. Which is the reason, why most indians come here for good graduate level education.

My point is, you don't see the NUMBER of people from ANY other country rolling over here in DROVES. In CSC, damn near HALF of the people in the major were barely able to speak English. The majority were of Indian and Middle Eastern origin.

In going to MIT and out to Stanford, it's just as retarded.

So maybe because there are a fucking billion people in your country, it's not significant, but if you look at the total number of people who could AFFORD to come here for education, I'll bet you anything you want that it's a SIGNFICANT PROPORTION.

A lot of rich affluent people don't even want second degrees.

especially in a country like India.

it's basically the new middle class that comes here for an education, and to tap the entrepreneurial environment here.

and I am sure you're aware that the numbers are dwindling because of increased scrutiny/lack of political will/increased bedget cuts everywhere.

The CSC department here is basically run by International students...well most of America. Americans in general arent' even interested in getting computer science degrees anymore. If anything, you should thank the International students for paying to keeping the departments alive. No graduate department can run with 10 American graduate students and zero foreigners.

Oh I definitely agree. Yall keep the shit afloat. I just find it rediculous. And at least with CSC, I honest to god have to say that the overwhelming majority of the non-native students that were in my classes were some of the most incompetent, whiny and pathetic people I have ever seen in my life, particularly the females.

It sounds lame, but in EVERY assigned group project I had in undergrad, I ended up doing the entire thing, because none of my team members could even understand the problem, much less assist in the solution. And not suprisingly, the other half intelligent people I know (foreign and US citizens alike) had very similar stories to tell.

^^^ Yeah its only been on the order of 5-7% both university wide and in Engineering.

But on the graduate side, its closer to 40% international on Masters and 55% on PhD candidates. Craziness!

Oh and international students pay the same amount as out-of-state tuition.
