While I see the point of the "unlimited download", I hate the idea of 'renting' my music. Even if it costs more over time I would much prefer to actually own the music.
There are some weeks when I will buy a CD or a collection of tracks off iTMS but other months I like not having to pay anything when I don't want to buy anything.9/16/2005 9:06:54 AM |

I'm thinking of buying this today. What are the main drawbacks versus getting the newest generation model? I know it's got a color screen, but that really doesn't matter much to me if it is just a color version of the same GUI. I have no need to view photos on my iPod. Am I missing anything important?9/16/2005 1:20:11 PM |

Thats an excellent deal. Unless a zen or equally reputable 20gig player can be found for $175, you should definitely take advantage. 9/16/2005 1:33:00 PM |

I haven't extensively used other players except the iPod, but stories like this make me not want to:

Quote : | "Ok, I've owned a handful of mp3 hdd music players, and I was quite sick of dealing with such flawed designs.
I used a Zen Xtra. It was cheap as dirt (like 200 for 40 gigs like 3 years ago), but it was bulky and took some time to boot. A firmware update helped, but the software interface was sub par. Plus I strongly dislike creative now, so I would avoid that in the future anyway.
I then went with a samsung yh-820. It was horrible. I originally liked it because it was smaller then the mini, had a line in, mike, and mp3 compression on the fly. However, it literally took 60+ seconds to turn on (yah, that slow) and had a horrible interface and was just really really slow to respond. Having a 100 song playlist, it would take like 20 seconds to bring up the playlist. The cord it used to interface with the computer was clunky and it used WMP10 to upload, which is far worse then the creative software and didnt even work with non-winxp OSs. Never going to buy Samsung anything again (i've had a bad phone from them and a few other electronic devices that has really burned me)
Then I get the nano. One sleak cord, charges through USB. Half the thickness of the mini/yh-820. Turns on instantly. BEAUTIFUL color screen. Small size and scroll wheel isnt a problem and i have big fingers. And, wow, the interface is intuitive and itunes blows any hdd mp3 software i have ever used.
To top it off, apple said 1-2 days to order and 5 days to ship. I ordered it monday afternoon and recieved it friday morning. Crazy. All the way from Shenzen at that " |

This guy is comparing a 4-year old creative player and a no-ones-heard-of samsung player to the brand new micro.
And itunes sucks. 9/17/2005 12:33:07 PM |

I have an iPod Photo and have no need to look at photos on it, either.
But I also bought the Camera Connector and have used the crap out of that thing. When I go on vacation, I can just take my iPod and the Camera Connector and download all my pictures onto my iPod each night. Very seamless and easy to use, and it increases the virtual size of my camera memory card to billions and billions of GB.
And the screen is much easier to read.
And the battery life is improved.
But that's it.9/17/2005 12:47:23 PM |

^^^ well, apple went out and found a large plot of unused land and planted huge orchards full of GB trees. they then farm the GBs for their iPods and put billions of them in mine. i got a good one.
