Yeah Delay is a scumbag, but do you really think Texas is going to appoint some tree hugging democrat in his place in the next election? Of course not, they'll just send another Delay equivalent repub with fewer criminal charges pending to Washington. Different face, same old song and dance.

In summary, it doesn't matter.

This assertion supports Earle's own claim about his record. From a March 6 article in the El Paso Times: "Earle says local prosecution is fundamental and points out that 11 of the 15 politicians he has prosecuted over the years were Democrats.""

It's a fake.

This type of font is not used by the modern Travis County Criminal Court. It was replaced in 1997 by Franklin Script font. Clearly, the democrats obtained an old Travis County document making machine and used it to fabricate this document.

Something has been bothering me since Delay was indicted. I’ve looked around but can’t find a real answer. If money is sent from Texas to the Republican National committee in Washington and then back to the Texas republican candidates, could this mean the Republican National Committee committed these crimes?

Quote :
"The indictment sent a shock wave through the GOP establishment, which is already reeling from a swath of criminal and ethics investigations. Three individuals, eight corporations and two political action committees connected to DeLay have been indicted as a result of the probe. In addition, the government's top procurement official, David Safavian, was arrested in September for obstructing a criminal investigation into über-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a close DeLay ally. Abramoff himself is under criminal investigation for defrauding Indian tribes and was indicted for wire fraud in Florida in a separate case. Top White House aides, including Karl Rove and Scooter Libby, have been targeted by a special prosecutor investigating the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame. Representative Duke Cunningham announced he would not run for re-election after overselling his house for $700,000 to a military industry lobbyist; he too has been indicted. FDA chief Lester Crawford resigned unexpectedly after just two months on the job, possibly because of failure to report his wife's sizable pharmaceutical-industry holdings. And DeLay's Senate counterpart, Bill Frist, is battling possible insider-trading charges for dumping millions in HCA stock, a company founded by his father and run by his brother, weeks before it plunged in value. The U.S. Attorney in Manhattan and the Securities and Exchange Commission opened an investigation into Frist and HCA in September."

oh wow, so dreier isn't going to be majority leader now because he's gay

http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Gay_Republican_eyed_to_become_House_0928.html

Quote :
"After earlier reporting that Rep. David Dreier (R-CA) was expected to succeed House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) as majority leader, the decision has been reversed. House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) will instead take up DeLay's post.

Sources tell RAW STORY that Dreier -- who was a shoo-in for the position -- was nixed for various reasons, in part because his sexuality would raise ire within the party ranks.

A second reason cited is that it would have meant that Doc Hastings (R-WA) would have become Rules Chairman in Dreier's place, meaning the Ethics Committee would change hands midstream. This was seen by leadership as a bad move, sources say."

If Delay was really guilty of money laundering then he would have been charged with it. All corrupt Democratic roads lead to Travis Co., Texas. This is the same place where the forged documents against Bush surfaced with regards to his service in the national guard. Also, the DA, who is a Democrat, is a part of at least one foundation that is set up to keep corporate money out of politics and brought a lawsuit against several large companies but later dropped the charges when said companies donated money to these foundations that he is affiliated with which makes this clown DA an extortionist.

Quote :
"But recent press reports seem to ignore the fact that Earle, as part of the DeLay case, also has criminally indicted eight U.S. corporations, including Sears and Cracker Barrel, Bacardi USA, Westar Energy, Williams Companies, and several other companies.

At the time, Earle said he could prove "the outline of an effort to use corporate contributions to control representative democracy in Texas."

The companies, of course, denied wrongdoing.

But Earle later cleared the companies after demanding they make donations to charities he backed. Reportedly he sought as much as $1 million from Sears. In the end, Earle was said to have "persuaded" these companies to fork over six-figure donations in exchange for clearing them of wrongdoing.

Well given the fact that this whole mess with Bill Bennett was started by a website that is funded by George Soros and given all the leftwing crap pryderi uses worrying about the credibility of newsmax should be the least of your worries. There's no doubting that the DA in question is nothing more than a political hack given the phony charges drummed up against Tom Delay.

"Fox News host, analyst, guest all ignored Texas law to falsely claim DeLay indictment based on weak evidence

Commentators and journalists falsely attacked the indictment handed down against former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) by claiming that it cites little or no specific evidence to support the charge that he conspired to violate Texas campaign finance laws. Attacks appearing on Fox News took two forms: 1) that the absence of evidence in the indictment is highly unusual; and 2) that it implies a weak case. In fact, Texas law requires only that specific allegations be presented in the indictment, not the specific evidence to back up those allegations. Moreover, contrary to the claim that the indictment's lack of evidence is highly unusual, prosecutors in Texas rarely include such evidence [The Washington Post, 9/29/05]."

^^ Where's DG's condemnation of the linked biased site above? And newsmax is bad? Sheesh.

Why has Delay had it coming for years? Because he's outspoken and is a meanie who hurts your feelings? The charge is a weak one. It's not going to stick. This same DA trumped up BS charges against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson back in the mid '90s. Travis County, Texas reeks of political corruption. But I guess that's ok when they go after the great satan GOP.

mediamatters and newsmax are quite different. For one, mediamatters cites reputable sources, while newsmax is just crazy rambling about bill clinton raping and killing vince foster... or something like that. we're not sure but we're sure clinton's a blood relative of satan.

mediamatters backs up everything with fact and has never, that I know of, been incorrect or editorialized at all.

oh, they're biased alright, and you won't see them calling out liberals lying very much, but they don't act like liberals don't lie. they jsut talk about when republicans lie.

I was reading a Newsweek (or maybe Time?) this afternoon that had a little photo biography of Delay.

At one point in his life he had one of those little moustaches that only covers a half inch above one's upper lip and leaves the other half inch between the moustache and the nose shaved.

For that he needs to be thrown in jail.

SPEEEEEEEEEAKING OF INDICTMENTS

Quote :
"The Bush administration's former chief procurement official was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements and obstructing investigations into high-powered Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The five felony counts in the indictment charge David H. Safavian with obstructing Senate and executive branch investigations into whether he aided Abramoff in efforts to acquire property controlled by the General Services Administration around the nation's capital."

AUSTIN, Texas - A Texas prosecutor subpoenaed records for the home telephone of former House Majority Leader
Tom DeLay and the phone of his political campaign Thursday.

Also subpoenaed by prosecutor Ronnie Earle were records for two numbers for DeLay's daughter, Danielle DeLay Ferro.

DeLay is facing charges of money laundering and conspiracy in a Texas campaign finance case.

The subpoenas list telephone numbers, but not whom they belong to. They ask for information about the calls and the numbers' subscribers, voice mail service, billing information, long distance calls made from or charged to the numbers and special features."

Quote :
"A Texas court on Wednesday issued a warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's arrest, and set an initial $10,000 bail as a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges.

Travis County court officials said DeLay was ordered to appear at the Fort Bend County, Texas, jail for booking, where he'd likely be fingerprinted and photographed. DeLay's lawyers had hoped to avoid such a spectacle.

The warrant, known as a capias, is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin said.

The lawyer declined to say when DeLay would surrender to authorities but said the lawmaker would make his first court appearance Friday morning.

The charges against the Texas Republican stem from allegations that a DeLay-founded Texas political committee funneled corporate money into state GOP legislative races through the National Republican Party."
