That's pretty sums up my opinion of SE products from the get go.

ARE YOU STUPID

CELL PHONES ALREADY COST THREE HUNDRED TO FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS

WHATS ANOTHER HUNDRED TO HAVE EVERY FEATURE UNDER THE SUN?

ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU'D RATHER SPEND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ON A WASTE OF PLASTIC

THEN SAVE UP AN EXTRA ONE FIFTY AND BUY THE KING OF PHONES?

ARE YOU THAT BAD OF A CONSUMER?

I told you, I don't own a cellphone.

and i don't agree that just because SE won the war of bullet-features, that their phone is the "king of phones"

You guys are going to have a hard time convincing someone of the practicality of having a cell phone jampacked with features

When he doesn't even believe in the practicality of being able to call people when not located next to a wall.

I do believe in the practicality of cell phones.

For other people, cell phones can be very useful. However, spending $500+ for a gadget just because it has more "features" than a cheap or free phone is just stupid. Particularly considering the mediocre nature of this phone's "features"

No what he doesn't get is that he'd already have to spend $250 at least for a decent phone and that an extra $100 for getting the best phone makes a lot of sense.

Note how he keeps saying "i dont want to spend $500."

I mean there's a reason all the GSM phones in the US are terrible.

what YOU don't get is my contention that the number of features advertised is not proportional to the quality and/or value of a product. and that is even more true for pocket gadgets such as these where feature bloat can become an irresistable force for both marketers and their drones (YOU MORONS).

Considering that the bargain bin cell phone that does nothing but make calls will run you over $120 MSRP, I don't really see how something that takes pictures, plays MP3s, and can browse the web clocking in at $400 - $500 is that outlandish.

An iPod nano alone with 2GB of space, which just plays music, is $199.

So to just make phone calls and listen to MP3s it's already going to run you $320+.

I'd say the pricing is pretty spot on.

pay a shitton of money for a collection of medium quality electronic devices!

better phones, cameras, pdas out there, etc.

I mean if youre going to spend hundreds of dollars why not get the best of each category and maybe a nice little backpack!?!

Convenience?

Christ, I'm a Jew and even I understand there's something to be said for paying a price (which in this case is virtually nothing) for ease of accessibility.

I've never seen a provider who didn't offer the really basic calls only phones for free with plan.

i mean if you're going to blow 120 on a basic phone like that i'd say you're a retard.

in my eyes its

Cell phone w/ plan $0

Cell phone w/ toys /w plan $250+

cool phones would be nice.

unfortunately, this phone is not cool. it suffers from a bad case of featuritis brought on by an infection of marketosis in large intestine of SE's engineering division

Who said the phone costs $500?? I got it for $350 whereas a S710a phone would cost around $270 unbadged. IMO $80 is worth the extra money. The 2GB MS did not come with the phone but at $130 for a Pro Duo card it really is a bargain since you can use it in a PSP. If you're broke then I guess you can't relate to the value.

that one made me LOL.

What I don't understand is how you get off by saying that this phone has mediocre features:
1.) 2MP is the best found in any phone and is good enough for printing out photo quality 8x10's. Oh and it also has a macro mode, real auto focus lens, and a dual LED flash which is good for most situations and doubles as a superbright flashlight.
(example of mediocre would be the shit cameras that moto and nokia have which are 1.2MP or less and usually only 640x480 VGA resolution.)

2.) The MP3 player feature is great. It has playlists, eq, w/custom or preset settings, dedicated buttons on the side of the phone for play/pause, vol up and down and next/prev track. It displays ID3 tags, will play shuffle, sort by date, name, title, and the list goes on. Comes with stereo earbuds that are on par with iPod's.
(example of mediocre would be the other phones that have mono earbuds, no dedicated butons, no eq, and very limited memory.)

3.) The organizer and phonebook is advanced. It will sync with iCal or Outlook perfectly. Has space for every concievable field in the phonebook (ie: phone, fax, email, address, company, job title, birthday, picture, and more) The calendar also has all the features you need.
(example of mediocre would be phonebooks that limit you to only 3 phone numbers and none of the other info, and a calendar that isn't up to par w/outlook and iCal)

4.) Expandable memory: it has MS Pro Duo, and will take up to 4GB! plus the phone has internal memory of about 64MB.
(mediocre: phones with no memory expansion or ones that max out at anything under a gig)

5.) Bluetooth: Full featured, works with headsets and with your computer to sync up contacts and cal, etc. to load games, movies, and MP3s. Can be used as a remote control for your compy or to control powerpoint, etc.
(mediocre: verizon's crippled bluetooth phones that won't allow file transfers, etc)

6.) Screen and phone design/form factor is great, the screen it very high res and bright as phones go and the tiny size of the phone is great considering all it can do, plus I like the black and silver color scheme.
(mediocre: any other phone that is bigger and has less features and a shittier screen)

7.) Internet and email, FM radio, Media player for video/audio, games, etc.
(mediocre: every other phone)

That's all I can think of at the moment, feel free to add to the list if I missed something.

Well I guess people here think that just because THEY don't need all things you can do with phone that the 'features' are nothing more than bells and whistles. When in reality this serves as my PRIMARY audio player, digi camera, and organizer.

EEStudent btw how long does your battery typically last?? I only get about 1 day with using it fairly frequently as speakerphone and mp3. seems kind of short--i think somethings wrong with my battery.

from reviews 1 day seems right if you are using it for speakerphone and mp3

i have a different phone but it also only gets about a day and a half if i use speaker phone and listen to a lot of music

well, I've gone for 3 days on one charge, that's with a fair amount of talk time on 2 of the 3 days, speakerphone used rarely and taking a few pictures, but no mp3s...I'd say on average I charge it every other night, but usually the battery is about half or slightly less when I charge it. With a couple hours of mp3 playing, phone calls, speakerphone a bit, I'd say about 1.5 days per charge. So it sounds like you're in the ballpark but maybe a bit on the short side as far as battery stamina.

EE---I got version 'R1J002' and it says 'Europe 4' whatever that means. there are no thai letters on the keypad. I think i have the UK version but SE sent the phone from Texas. Anyway r u thinking of upgrading your firmware? I hear that it makes the camera quality a bit better and more option for media player.

Also thanks for those links. I've been going here:
http://www.myk750.lasyk.net/
to get my animated themes. I also just bought the external flash MXE-60 which helps photos in dark lit rooms.
