this is what I hate about all this trying to put everything into two terms, I mean how the hell can you apply a term that is derived from liberty to the USSR.

It just gets annoying that every political force that has ever existed in the world has to be put in our little black/white, liberal/conservative boxes.

You can't. But then again, the Soviet Union was Marxist-Leninist to start with.

oh, come on. that argument is tired and weak. Liberalism and conservatism are about more than that and you know it. At best, its a correlation that liberalism advocates change, so to say that acceptance of change is the actual platform of the parties is ludicrous.

The colonists were largely independent before the 1760s. Americans were British subjects and proud of it, but the crown was accustomed to "benevolent neglect" until the 1760s when the British Parliament decided the time had come to merge the two regimes. Until then the colonists had their own legislatures, raised their own taxes, routinely ignored vetos from British Governors, and largely ignored British regulations. Parliament didn't like being ignored and started appointing activist governors to enforce the law and put the colonists in thier rightful place.

America after the war, about 1780ish, was governed largely as it was in the 1750s, independent state legislatures and citizens largely ignoring British regulation. Several MPs called us pirates and brigands because every merchant ship of the colonies was carrying "contraband" and the colonial port authorities refused to do anything about the lawless shipping practices.

As the colonists would tell you, it was the British that changed in 1760, not the colonists.

No, they really aren't.

lib·er·al (lbr-l, lbrl)
adj.

1. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
2. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
3. Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
4. Liberal Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.

con·ser·va·tive (kn-sûrv-tv) adj.

1. Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.
2. Traditional or restrained in style: a conservative dark suit.
3. Moderate; cautious: a conservative estimate.
4.
1. Of or relating to the political philosophy of conservatism.
2. Belonging to a conservative party, group, or movement.

You're fusing liberalism with leftist politics and conservatism with right wing politics. Liberalism and conservatism refer only to pro/anti-change.

Words mean what we say they mean. If you want to imagine the words meaning what you say they mean, so be it. But don't act like your definitions are universal.

When I hear the word liberal I still think what you would probably call a libertarian because that is what the word used to mean.

^^well if you want to use dictionary.com definitions,

Quote :
" All liberal/conservative means is whether you want progress or the satus-quo/regression. Left v. right involves the role of gov't."

Then all your posts trying to seperate out left/right liberal/conservative dont work:

right wing
n.
The conservative or reactionary faction of a group.

left wing also Left Wing
n.
The liberal or radical faction of a group.

Liberalism= Watered Down Communism
Democrat Politicians= Puppet Masters- Selling their sad song and dance to their voters, telling them they "need" the government to better their situation. Hence the "Help is on the Way" slogan Kerry and Edwards (Haha) used in '04. Sure, tell them they cant make it without you, thats a Real good way to help them help themselves and progress. Oppotunity was never created through pessimism Just like throwing a dog a bone, keep throwing him just enough food to keep him around and he'll always be there for you. (vote for you in Nov.) Sure wont teach him to go find food on his own for later days or be independent.

Good example... You will never hear that dumb ass Jesse Jackson ever talk about whats going well for Blacks in the country or any positive things have happened to mend race relations, only negative news and jibba jabba hype. Why? So he will have a purpose, a reason to squawk and get a new caddy every year. Same with Mainstream lib politicians, make shallow promises of government handouts to keep everyone at a nice little medium level, just enough to get by and they will keep voting for you as their savior. Wow, thank goodness for the backbone of Bush to continue to put the government back in the hands of the working american and not letting the tail wag the dog.

And if you are going to lash out to this, at least try to do it w/o mentioning the war, I hope you libs had some defensive platform before we had to defend the homefront.

Bottom Line
