Do they play the song "Jesus Walks" constantly throughout the movie? If not, it might not be worth seeing...

just got back from it. good film. an odd war movie for an odd war.

only gripe about it was the scene where Jamie Foxx and Gyllenhaal are sitting in the burning oil field. Was hoping that'd turn into something a little deeper since they hyped that line so much.

ah well.

the movie builds up, and builds up and builds up and then it doesn't do anything. I was pretty disappointed. I'm a big FMJ fan and with this movie being compared to it I was expecting more. It wasn't a bad movie, just not what I was hoping for.

i thought the movie was very well done. it had a different perspective from your typical "war" movies, and that's what i liked about it.

i knew people who spent 10 months in iraq and never saw an iraqi unless it was a local contractor that fixed AC units.

they flew into the base on week 1, and flew out on the last week. never left the base ever.

so yes i can imagine an infantry platoon and sniper units during the week of ground war in desert storm not seeing much action.

GREAT MOVIE!

The guys I went with didn't enjoy it as much because they said it was "like a documentary." (They wanted to see more stuff get blown up.)

I think overall it was pretty realistic based on what I have heard from people who were in Iraq.

Anyways, I thought it was better than what I had expected.

If I had gone in knowing there was going to be 0 action in the whole movie, I probably would have liked it better. But I had heard that the movie being compared to FMJ and thus expected the buildup to lead somewhere completely different. Thus I was dissapointed.

The movie was good for what it was, which I said, but not what I was hoping for.

not what i was expecting = dissapointed = not going to like as much

I expected there to be no "action" and it was better than I thought.

The guys I went with expected there to be action and were upset.

So it really comes down to that I think.

At any rate, in that cowboy movie, he could have had this, but he chose to be gay instead.

i liked it, seemed to drag at a few times, but i was tired so it could be me. i dont see this earning any movie of the year type awards, but im seeing a few acting nominations (very well done for fox and gyllenhall or however the fuck you spell it).

[Edited on November 5, 2005 at 10:05 PM. Reason : it was about on par with what i expected. i dont think ti looked like an action movie at all]

no, i quite enjoy disturbing parts.

it was quite long and uneventful, which all helped play into the point that the movie was trying to make, but does not make for rewatchability (is that a word?).

i'm not trying to say the movie was bad in any way, but i cant imagine why anyone would want to see it again very soon.

Well you don't leave me much of choice when YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT ONE OF THE MAJOR PRINCIPLES OF THE FILM

why do you think they bothered to continually tell you they were increasing the numbers of troops EXPONENTIALLY even when we only saw 10-20 in almost any given scene

Because I went in there to see a different kind of movie. Not becuase I didn't understand the purpose of the movie. I don't know how many times I need to say that for you to understand what I'm saying. Here, I will start over from the beginning, maybe you'll get it this time.

I saw the movie and thought it was well done and good for what it was. I went in thinking the movie was going to take a different direction and so I didn't like as much as I thought I was going to. But it was still a good movie and served it's purpose well.

^^same here, all that training, all that time spent out there in the desert...

^^ actually I didn't read any reviews or really know anything about the film. I saw previews of stuff blowing up and oil fields on fire. From the previews I thought the movie was going into another direction.
