you should at least go test drive an Elise before you buy anything else...and maybe take a look at an Exige in person (i actually haven't even seen an Exige in person)

last time i was at the dealership the sticker on a new 911 turbo was $120,000 so i'm sure it doesn't have to be THAT old to be less than 100,000

the superformance kit of the original gt40 cause this one is actually only 40" tall like it should be

65k less motor and transaxle

i figure i can build an ass kicking motor and find a good transaxle for under 35k

Nothing dumb about buying a sports car new. You never know how the owner of a used sports car treated it during the first, fragile 5000 miles. I wouldnt be surprised if a brand new porsche was ragged out on the drive home from the DEALERSHIP. All kinds of stupid people buy those cars as status symbols.

A nice R34 GT-R V-spec can be had for right around 100k. damn nice car! It's not a luxury car or a drag car, but if you put it in some curves, it'll kill that z06 easy.

In regards to you asking about Porsches, each of the 911s has a model designation. 89-94 are known as the 964, 95-98 are known as the 993, 99-04 are known as the 996, and the 05 and newer are the 997. They are all 911s, but when you talk to anyone about Porsches, they'll generally use this terminology. There is a 2001 Twin Turbo at the Porsche dealership in Cary for 79,000 I believe. Its a very rare (first time I have seen it) burnt orange color (looks better than the 350Z burnt orange). Like I said, I would take an 05 (ie 997) Carrera 4S over a turbo 99-04 (ie 996) any day, but that decision is based on how it looks. A brand new, every option Carrera 4S was 104k at Porsche in Cary but I was just browsing EBay and it looks like you can get S models for around 85k. You could also wait until the new turbo comes out. A 95-98 (ie 993) Turbo is the car to have in many Porsche circles but I don't think you would like the interior. It is the last of the air cooled turbos and is considered by some to be the last true 911. Because of that, they command a pretty penny.

Dude, have you seen the handling numbers and/or reviews of the new Z06? I'm just curious, because the handling has been praised quite a bit. IIRC it was getting around 1g on the skidpad and has a good slalom speed. Not to mention it has a rear transaxle which helps with the whole polar inertia shyte.

There is more to a car than straight-line performance, yes, but the C6 Z06 shines in the "non-straight-line" areas as well.

It would be very ignorant to dismiss a car based solely on the country it was built in. There are shit boxes that come out of Italy, Germany, and Japan as well.

by the time you amass your 100k, (early 2007) this car will be in production and it will be pwning german, italian, and american supercars left and right. but be careful, this is a hardcore super-sportscar, not a luxo-cruiser like the mercs, 911 carrera (half-half), maserati, etc.

(expect 450-500 hp)

(Nissan Skyline)

I don't think the new Skyline will beat the Z06 in much of any category. Doesn't the Z06 weigh 3175 or something... with a 7 liter engine?

Yeah, I also seriously doubt the skyline will have 500hp, but maybe....

Even then, if it's got AWD like the old ones it's going to be heavier than the Z06 I'd imagine. I think the C6 Z06 has a pretty lightweight chassis. I read it weighs 3130 lbs or so, which is insane considering the whole 500hp thing.

Where did you learn to be so stupid? Not a chance in hell of that happening.

I highly doubt the new Skyline will be able to match the C6 Z06's numbers.

Queti is NOT going to buy a kit car, so quit telling her what you'd do, ack.

an R34 vspec would get raped by the new z06 (maybe even the old one). And I'm a Nissan fanboy

no matter how hard they try it still feels like every other shitty plastic chevy interior to me

i'd rather have sheet metal and recaro then the trash they put in there

from the ones you listed...id take NSX. for that money id consider rarity over performance because more or less all of the cars are great performers.

I'm sorry, but if I saved $24k over that NSX and beat the everloving shit out of it I'd be happy.

Dude, the vette has almost TWICE the power of the NSX.

You could spice up the vette interior with that $24k btw.

$89k for an outdated underpowered vehicle isn't my idea of fun. Hell, an exige would give that shit a lot of trouble if not beat it.

a vette is still sweet as hell IMO. a yellow stock z06 i saw on I-40 on the way back home stands out in my mind... it was just awesome looking coming up in the rearview and passing

I had a dream the other night that I was driving a tiptronic convertible vette... and i was amazed with the automatic folding top for some reason. do vettes even have those (auto folding tops i mean)

if you want to feel high and mighty and 'rich' too while driving down the road get the CLK or the SL....or the 911

personally non of those cars come close to the 911 in body style for my taste.

you should be able to locate a used gt3 around that money. i would be looking for a 996 if i were you. they are holding their value better then a zo6. but.... i am a porsche man with out question. if you get into a 996, 993, or gt3 and close the door it doesnt rattle, try that in a vette. start the car and listen to the inside noise in a porsche, no vibrations, now try it in a vette. little things like that make a quality of the porsche worth the money. the z06 is a raw and unrefined where the porshce is refined and smooth. buy the porsche and you will never regret it. i have drive multiple 996's and a one gt3, as well as a supercharged viper, and last years z06. buy the porsche. it will give you the creature comforts you expect in germany's finest automobile, but at the same time you dont lose a single bit of performance. buy a 996 or look into a gt3.

Fuck some of these guys, the Z06 is unlike almost every other piece of machinery the General has ever made. I'm a GM guy, but I know that my Z28 has some shitty build quality on the interior. But I would never compare my mass-produced streetcar to this masterpiece in motion. Handbuilt motor that makes 505 hp AND gets 26 mpg on the highway. Aluminum frame that makes the bitch lighter than a fucking Ferrrari F430 by almost 70 pounds. It'll hold its own or rape cars that run 2 or 3 times as much as it.

Bang for the buck, its IMPOSSIBLE to beat the Z06. Sure you are gonna see quite a few more of these on the road, but thats because its such a value. I wish I could afford one myself, but I figure I have a much better chance of buying a motor/tranny/axle/frame from a Z06 and building the first Camaro Z06.
