since we're on a new page, I'll reiterate this link
http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/02/pipes_and_filte.html

it gives a good overview and provides some context, likening Pipes:Internet as Command Line Piping:UNIX

Quote :
"I want to talk about the implications for that marvelous aspect of the fundamental UNIX design: the pipe, and its ability to connect small independent programs so that they could collectively perform functions beyond the capability of any of them alone."

makes you wonder what Yahoo was thinking releasing this without properly stress-testing its load capability. if anyone should have a grasp on high-traffic environments, Yahoo is definitely one of 'em.

well, the blogosphere has been spooging itself all day long about this thing, and i doubt more than 5% of the people have even seen it in action yet

[Edited on February 8, 2007 at 6:40 PM. Reason : i doubt the techier labs stuff like this usually gets this much attention]

per scriptingnews, pretty much sums it up

Quote :
"Note at 6PM Pacific: Yahoo Pipes missed its own opening day.

Back to the drawing boards for one of the most over-hyped non-events in the history of the Internet. "

I wouldn't complain if Gmail integrated some sort of tab view (for having multiple conversations and drafts open), a year late or not.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/03/27/yahoo-mail-announces-unlimited-storage/

nice to see yahoo! one-uping google on this one, despite that for the far majority of users, i suspect this storage increase will not add much value to the service, and chances are they won't notice or even care about the change at this point

Is Yahoo's webhosting pretty good, or is there a better alternative as far a price, hosting capabilities, storage, domain registration, etc.?

The "new" Yahoo! mail has been in beta for like a year now. WTF are they waiting for?
