no offense charlie but I agreed with everything you said and I hated stone too. Until tonight. This kid has so much toughness that I just don't think Jay has. I know that the running game did it and I know that 95% of the time Stone can't throw the ball in an ocean but he takes hits and gets right back up, he feels pressure and runs even if hes a dumbass and tries to challange linebackers.
DO i think stone is a good QB?? Heck no. I still don't really like him but he plays with toughness that Jay just didn't have.
The main thing i hope for is for Jay not to get booed on senior day. I just hope our fans realize that Marcus has just gotton lucky with ANdre and been smart and not turned the ball over in 3 halves of football..
Stone didn't play great today and only made 4 or 5 good throws but he managed the game good and the team seems to like him in there. So i can just say, i dont really like stone but i like winning so keep him in there. 11/5/2005 10:04:18 PM |

8-10 for 77 yards, 1 TD in the 2nd half.... which was good enough to get the win.

i'd say his TD pass HELPED win the game but... Stone didn't win the game by himself, Brown didn't win the game by himself, the Defense didn't win the game by itself. The team won... stop bitching about Stone/Davis and enjoy the win.11/5/2005 10:06:40 PM |

How about when Stone PWNT AJ Nicholson and AJ got up and got in his face like he got the better end of it?
I laughed my ass off...Stone got knocked back a little, but stayed on his feet like it was nothing, and AJ went to the ground...then tried to slap Marcus like he was a bitch...Nobody fucks with my QB like that...NOBODY 11/5/2005 10:07:35 PM |

Ya i thought it looked like a punch i was like "why didn't he get ejected or at least get a flag..."
by rule, isn't any form of a punch an automatic ejection? it is in the NFL, supposedly... 11/6/2005 12:32:15 AM |

thought so...it was quick though so who knows.
Stone actually looked like he was giving him a little lip first though, but AJ was the one jumping around throwing bows. But hell, if I just busted a future first round draft pick's grill I would have let him know it too...especially since he didnt fake likehe was going OB like that pussy Vick did against WVU. 11/6/2005 12:35:36 AM |

I still don't quite understand this thread
Stone didn't prove anything other than he can hand the ball off to Andre Brown today 11/6/2005 1:15:36 AM |

Stone proved a couple times that when there's no throw to be made, he's willing to take a sack or ground the ball.
I'd rather have a low completion %age due to that then one due to interceptions and forced passes gone wrong. 11/6/2005 1:31:49 AM |

I dont see why they are bashing you Charlie. Andre Brown/defense actually playing is the reason we have won the last two games. EITHER QB could have won the game today and last week for that much. But like I said earlier, I dont care who plays QB, I will pull for whoever it is. 11/6/2005 1:39:30 AM |

I know why they're bashing me
but it's not because of the reason they stated in the thread
b/c that reason's weak as hell
they want to tell me they told me so as much as i want to do the same thing
yet they have as much as i have to back that up
which isn't much
but we all try 11/6/2005 1:47:00 AM |

^^^ as I've said elsewhere, Jay's good plays didn't cover enough ground to outdo his bad ones.
Taking a sack or grounding the ball is MUCH better than throwing an interception. Here's why:
Coverage sacks (or grounding the ball due to good coverage) shows that the quarterback is thinking, "Hey, the defense has our number on this one, let's take the L on this play and try again next play/series." Throwing an interception shows that the quarterback is thinking, "Hey, the defense has our number on this one, but let's see if I can make something happen anyway." Yes, sometimes there are deflections off the receiver, or they underrun a route... but a lot of Jay's interceptions were due to him forcing the issue when deferring to the play, if even just for one play, was clearly the better option. 11/6/2005 1:59:02 AM |

He didnt fumble a snap, he didnt throw 5 picks, he didnt make mistakes. Thats what he proved. And thats all we needed was a QB that could just manage a game without a big breakdown. Jay's biggest problems were never throwing down the field, having tunnel vision, and taking unnecessary sacks. Marcus doesnt do those things. How many sacks did he break off simply bc he is a horse. Hes got a few extra elements that Davis doesnt have. That being said, im still hoping that Burke turns out to be a stud, we get Schaffer, or Marcus continues to progress(which he has). Next year might not be looking as grim as i thought.11/6/2005 10:24:48 AM |

I cant believe this, but I agree mostly with Charlie. Stone threw for 8 yards in the first half and could have had us up by at least a touchdown. He is NOT better than Jay. Nor is Jay better than him.
^Were you at the Wake game, when Stone threw the pick that costs us the game?
Quote : | "and taking unnecessary sacks." |
Stone took two VERY unnecessary sacks that took us out of field goal range, when we should have been looking to score.11/6/2005 10:33:28 AM |

I dont understand why people have said the team plays harder when stone is in there. Did you even watch the first half. Stone rarely even had time to throw the ball, there were always defenders in the backfield, the same thing as when Jay is back there. The team will play hard no matter which qb is in there because none of them want to lose. Stone isn't great but I don't have a problem with him being in there as long as he isn't throwing picks. I would like to see him throw for more than ONE completion in a HALF, but I assume it will get better with more experience. 11/6/2005 11:15:27 AM |

Well, most of that is becuase the teams know we can't pass. They just put 9 guys up on the line and dare us to throw. They blitz like madmen and know that we're not going to throw.
When I say we seem to play more inspired, I'm referring to the defense.11/6/2005 11:18:19 AM |
