many people (including me) don't like that crap since it muddies up the board.

"^ the difference is that most of those holes are constantly being patched and upgrades are being released.

say you go here: http://secunia.com/search/?search=crazyweb
does that mean crazyweb has no security flaws? no, we all know them. and on top of that, nobody's fixing them.

anyhow, i'd go with invision if i wanted to pay for it, or i'd go with SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) or phpBB2 since those are the 2 my hosting company already supports by including in fantastico and will automatically upgrade for me. i think that'd be my biggest criteria since keeping up with all that shit is such a pain when you have a thousand other things to do besides administer a board.

edit:
i forgot, there are some that are included as part of content management systems that you may look into as well - since picture galleries and stuff involve more than just a forum.
these are the ones my hosting company supports:
Drupal
Geeklog
Mambo Open Source
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
Typo3
Xoops
but i'm sure there are others out there."

Why? I think it's useful. On other boards I often identify people by avatar rather then screen name. It's easier that way.

I'm sure there is an option that allows you to turn them off. No need to ruin the fun for everyone.

Well I think they are pretty cool, but thats just my opinion. I fail to see how the fact that I like avatars somehow ties into my matuity level.

Shows how much you know about me, seeing as how I hate AOL and never have frequented any of their chat boards. Just because I like avatars doesn't mean I'm a noob. Its just that most forums that I have been a member of have had avatars and sig pics, and I've grown used to them. So step off.

If I had to use something, I'd use Invision with about 90% of the features turned off.

I wouldn't touch phpBB again with a ten-foot pole.

because avatars and particularly sig pics have no purpose in a message board. they are redundant, they waste space, and it takes a weak, weak mind to enjoy them.

How do they waste space? All you would have to do is put in a URL for an offsite server or your Photobucket account where the image is stored. They wouldn't have to store it on TWW's webserver. Like I said, there could also be an option to turn them off so you wouldn't have to view them if you didn't like. Everyone has different interests. Just because someone likes something you deem "uncool" doesn't mean they have a weak mind.

Who cares about what you think is AOLish? Like I said, you would be able to turn them off so you wouldn't have to look at them. Don't ruin the fun for those who DO enjoy avatars (I know some here do, they just don't have the balls to say it like I do).

Yeah, but for how long?

See, like if you buy vBulletin you pay something like $200 to get a one year license.

Or is just this $1,000 and then you're on your own?
