i wouldnt say its big anywhere in the state... there are big areas... go to a broughton game and you will see
My junior year when we beat them like 70 -0 it was pitiful. Garner had at least 4-5 times as many people at that game. 3rd string played the whole 2nd half i think. Too funny. 11/21/2005 8:22:54 AM |

The whole split playoff thing started because of what was happening in the smallest class, 1A. Schools with about 700 students were playing in the same class with schools that have 150-200 students. In 1A, subdividing the playoffs really made sense.
There were also some gripes in 4A, where some schools had nearly 3000 students while others were around 1600. This isn't as big a deal, but once the coaches got behind the 4A split, they ended up doing it in all 4 classes.
If they really had to go from 4 classes to 8, why not cut the size of each playoff bracket from 32 to 16, leaving the total number of playoff teams unchanged at 128, instead of doubling it to 256 (out of about 340)? But, the whole thing is about money; the NCHSAA gets 15% of the ticket money at each of the additional 128 games played under the new format, and that's a lot of money.
For the kids (and many of the coaches and communities), it's still about heart, school pride, and the love of the game, but for the state-level administration, it's increasingly about money, and that's sad. 11/21/2005 10:11:46 AM |

I went to the Wakefield/Cary game tonight..
Wakefield came out on top 10-7
Their running back Matt Baugh got hurt early in the first quarter and only saw 1 more series of play after that. But when he was in, he was a difference maker. He came up gimpy on a long run so they sat him down.
Cary had a chance to win it. They had the ball on the Wakefield 30 with 1 minute to go. On 2nd or 3rd down, instead of giving it to the person who had gotten them this far (Josh Adams), they gave it to the fullback and ran it right up the middle where he was stuffed and fumbled the ball..Game over. Good game though. If Wakefield wins next week, they advance to the championship game. 11/25/2005 11:19:17 PM |

so myers park got hammered tonight, 48-14, and the run is over
they showed knotts walking off the field at halftime with the pats up 31-7, and he says, "they thought this was gonna be a game." I, being one of the optimistic "they", was naturally insulted, and proceeded to yell back at the screen, saying things like, "they thought you'd be able to coach at the collegiate level, jackass."
the end
but gg mustangs for making it the furthest you have in 40 years 12/2/2005 10:37:51 PM |

I was at that Western Alamance game as well since I have a parent who teaches at Western and I coach the JV volleyball team at Western and IT WAS FREAKING COLD. Rocky Mount had a 1000 yard rusher on their team and we held him to 7 yards. In fact the paper said we held them to less than 10 yards rushing in the 2nd half all together. But that was because of a few QB sacks that brought the total down. Durham here we come!!!!

North Johnston? They got beat down last night, 50-19. They played about as bad as I've seen them play all year, and Wallace-Rose Hill looked as good as anybody I've seen in several years. Wallace has a linebacker, Nate Irving, who's coming here next year. He looks nice. 12/3/2005 1:31:34 PM |

I was at that game and it was fucking sad. and it was FREEZING we had to leave at halftime when it was 28-0. Lee County's running back b4 the game said "how good can they be with a name like 'Rose'?"
then he sucked, fumbled, did stupid shit, etc.

Yeah supposidly Lee County talked trash in the paper the week before the game. They questioned Rose's defense, and how they weren't physical, and how they thought they could run all over Rose.....after the final whistle, Lee County only had 115 TOTAL yards 12/5/2005 12:12:41 AM |
