I would love it if we got another PR who could start immediately. I don't expect that to happen, but I'd be thrilled if it did.
But let's not forget that we do have other options, like the Nebraska transfer coming in, who may replace Stone.11/29/2005 10:32:17 AM |

^^ Huh? Are you thinking about Joe Dailey, last year's starting QB for Nebraska? He is at UNC, and is terrible. 11/29/2005 10:46:11 AM |

If I'm not mistaken the Nebraska transfer is here and got cut by the football team because he was real bad. He still wrestles. 11/29/2005 10:48:29 AM |

There is another Nebraska transfer that is not Joe Dailey that is here. Ryan somethingorother I think.
There was an article from this week in some other thread that didn't say anything about him being cut, and had wrestling coach Carter Jordan talking about how great it is that Amato was a wrestler because his football training has a lot of wrestling techniques. 11/29/2005 10:53:53 AM |

If we got someone that played behind Joe Dailey, it is unlikely they are going to beat out Marcus Stone. 11/29/2005 11:07:35 AM |

Well I think the other thread said the guy we got was 2nd string, and Dailey was 3rd string. But ya know, who knows if it was true. Just saying what I remember from the other thread. I don't remember what thread it was and I could be mistaken. So...yeah. 11/29/2005 11:40:26 AM |

Dailey was the starter at Nebraska last year, and was beat out by the Wake transfer in the spring. Don't know about the other guy. 11/29/2005 11:51:43 AM |

Yeah I don't know. Either way, I don't think the guy we have was cut. If he was, the story I read gave no indication of it. And for that matter, more competition couldn't hurt anyway. Who cares if he doesn't beat Stone out as long as he pushes him forward. 11/29/2005 11:53:00 AM |

his name is ryan goodman. he wasn't cut, he hasn't even played with the football team yet. He transferred here and sat out this season for football and is on a wrestling scholly. He will be on a football scholly next year. 11/29/2005 12:00:40 PM |

So Goodman will be a junior next year since he sat out this year and he has already redshirted according to the article on here the other night. I think there is LITTLE chance he even sees the field here. 11/29/2005 12:06:56 PM |

According to that message board Burke's stats weren't very impressive in the championship game but they got the W and he had a rushing TD, so it sounded like a solid performance. 12/3/2005 3:48:08 PM |

Bowling Green had given up 54 points total all year.
Lexington Catholic won the game 49-21.
Burke's passing numbers weren't the best (no TD, 1 INT), but the win was incredibly impressive. 12/3/2005 4:39:52 PM |

The fact that he had no passing touchdowns and such a high score is actually heartening, because it tells me that Burke's team plays a multi-faceted offense and doesn't solely rely on the run or the pass. 12/4/2005 8:25:04 AM |

Why we would give a shit if Burke played in a multi-faceted offense in high school??? So we know that he can hand the ball off??12/4/2005 2:16:49 PM |

^That is just fucking stupid.
Marcus Stone knew how to run a balanced running attack. He had a great running back at his high school. That helped him a WHOLE LOT this year.
If you were to make a list of what you would like your recently signed high school quarterback to be able to do, it would probably look at little something like this...
1) Throw the ball well 2) Throw the deep ball well 3) Throw the short pass well 4) Go through his progressions 5) DON'T stare down the receiver 6) Make smart decisions (this should actually go 1st) 7) Be able to scramble . . . . . . 1,837) Be able to run a HIGH SCHOOL running attack

^Its more than that. Its coaching the team and being the leader of the offense. Peyton Manning not only is the best QB in the game, he is the best coach in the game. Audibles and adjustments. In other words, Burke looks to be able to coach on the field and lead. 12/4/2005 4:14:58 PM |

heard the same thing, also heard that it was drama, or some other fucking fine art credit
coming in in the spring was his only chance to be a freshman starter, now I hope he comes in and hits the strength/conditioning program hard, learns the offense, and takes a redshirt....
heard rivers talks to burke a decent amount, and that he will be in raleigh this summer, that has to be pretty inspiring for a kid out of high school, most on here hate Miami, I even get annoyed with the whole "the U" thing and I have a fucking degree from the place, but one thing you have to respect is the amount of players that come back there to work with the younger kids. This, in my opinion, is the most important reason they have such a good program, shockey was down there every other weekend last year, b/c he would roll up in his hummer and hang out with the dudes that lived next door! Also ray lewis, ed reed, portis, McGahee, are all regulars, not only in the summers, but on off weeks. (although this is a bit overboard and could get on the NFL teams nerves, it is great for the young kids. Other than this, miami has fairly shitty facilities compared, a delapadated stadium, and an eroded/wal-mart/hispanic fanbase that may rival the worst in the country.
/rant
sorry about that, but just think that this will be what helps the pack out in the future, apart from facilities upgrade, more fans, etc. it will be great to have Rivers/Holts/Mario/manny/Krob/and all the future NFLers coming back...that is where Chucks recruiting will help us in the future, putting guys in the pros fosters a lot of confidence in a program....
/rant #2
this all being said, I hope we can lock in on Shaeffer, i know a lot of you are down on him because he stiffed us the first time around, but I appreciate a guy that is willing to go to Juco for a year and take his lumps to choose any college he wants. Hearing that he has his grades/discipline in order, and he would be a great addition to the pack. I know he will be a bit of a mercenary for Chuck, but we need that type of shot in the arm, I know many point to his limited stats and experience but if we had this kid the last two years it would have made a tremendous difference....
Here is to the recruiting heating up, some big names are coming out of the woodwork, it is exciting to check out packpride again, on a daily/if not hourly basis, and that is what I love about chuck. During the season we talk shit about him for only being a salesman, now is when that attribute comes to the forefront!!!
Hopefully we lock up some commits this weekend!!!!

Everyone should swallow their pride on Shaeffer....he certainly swallowed his enough in order to visit and talk with Amato again after he screwed us the first time. We need QB's... and the kid is super-talented.
It's the perfect situation for him.
People make mistakes. If you were to ask him today if he regretted his UT decision, I guarantee you he'd say yes.
We need this kid

just getting tired of the whole, well he fucked us twice already argument
In addition, we are now getting interest from two of his recievers on the COS Juco team, they look like studs, trying to find more videos on them right now!
Here is a funny quote from the coach at COS about chuck:
"Coach Amato's recruiting area was where I was head coach. I've had coach Amato come in my office, put his cowboy boots on my desk, and say, 'Hey, who do you have for me this year?' I've known coach Amato a long time, and I think he's one of the all-time great guys. He does a great job of recruiting." 12/8/2005 12:21:42 PM |

I didn't really read the responses very carefully, but to respond to why it matters about the multi-faceted offense...
BobbyDigitial (I think) said it's encouraging to see that on his team.
That matters because it's easy to rack up 130 touchdown passes if that's all the team does. It doesn't matter if the kid threw for 6,000 yards because if you throw the ball enough, anyone will get there. If the team is balanced and runs a normal pass/run mix, you know he's getting the job done on a "normal" number of attempts.
21-30 for 275 yards and 4 TDs is a lot more impressive than 21-55 for 300 yards, 3 TDs and an INT.
I hope that makes sense. 12/8/2005 12:26:42 PM |

^yeah, I agree with that.
There's a difference between a QB who puts up big numbers at Texas Tech or Hawaii and a QB who puts up big numbers in a balanced offense. Same with the HS level. It shows that he's not just a product of the system. 12/8/2005 2:01:49 PM |
