Lol, i take it you dont read 3M polarizing film articles. I dont blame you, i dont know why i did. But if there was ever technical jargon to be had, its 12x12 inch sheets that cost 100$

i bought regular screen anti-glare film and cut it to match the size of my LCD to reduce glare, works like a charm, best $5 i spent on my project, then i added the touchscreen and had to lose it

and the visor thing is absurd, i could have told you it was safer to put it elsewhere than in-dash it's common sense, it's like giving you $5000 for having common sense, genious... having a screen in the visor is by all means safe, but not very user friendly

it should be an combination of safety and PRACTICALITY meaning you should have voice control, and button control (on the steering wheel/column) AND the touchscreen display (for gps is very useful) it's the combination of all three that seems most logical.

i dont see how cutting my field of view in half is safer.
maybe it is because i am tall but i cant see very far down the road with the visor down

A small HUD with simple steering wheel controls (up, down, right, left, enter) and a touchpad from a laptop for more precise movement installed in the console would seem ideal to me.

Cost and how to do it though are beyond me.

There are some other things that are gating the car pc, then I am also sitting on the fence about what equipment to use and how to power it. Even though I have the cash to throw at the project, I like to keep things as low cost and diy as possible.

It is funny you bttt this today because I was just contemplating earlier about taking some days off work this week to work on some of these gating tasks. So for now this is still in the design/planning stage and once I get the other stuff out of the way this will go rapidly.

I have to do some basic stereo work before I get into the car PC. At the moment I have a single 10w3 in a pretty large ported box that is just sitting in my cargo area. I don't like not having that space back there so I have to figure out how to minimize that. It's either gonna be

1) A stealthbox enclosure ($$$$)
2) A diy stealthbox (time/difficult+)
3) A fiberglass enclosure where the spare tire is (easy box but $$ to move the tire to the roof)
4) A fiber. enclosure in lift gate (time/difficult++)
5) Some other as yet decided enclosure scheme (possibly raised floor which could house all my electronics)

I could work on the computer now but I'd either have to have it "uninstalled" and do it later or install it twice when I redo the speaker enclosure.

so the Mac Mini x86 is out so I'm thinking of getting one and using my old mini in the car with i3wheels
