Hackman was a Marine before he went to Hollywood
I was gonna say Samual L. Jackson, but I retract that statement. He just talks the same in all of his movies.12/4/2005 12:11:53 PM |

i wouldn't say will smith just because he did a pretty good job with ali.
i'm tempted to say jim carrey, bc even though he's branched out some, most of his characters are still cooky in some way (ESotSM being the exception)

i think its kooky. cooky looks like you're saying he's chef-like.
i'd add mekhi phifer. seems like he always plays some variation of a thug. 12/4/2005 1:54:23 PM |

For his first 5 years, i'd give you jim carrey
but since the truman show in 98, jim carrey has taken on some challenging, diverse, and captivating characters
i mean
sheltered innocence in the truman show a spot-on andy kaufmann in man on the moon a questionable amnesiac in the majestic a tough role in the grinch a dichotic schizo in Me Myself & Irene the evil count in Lemony Snicket
and of course everyman Joel in eternal sunshine
sure he has his bruce almightys and liar liars, and probably dick and jane movies, but i'd say for the last 7 years, his "different" roles have outnumbered his "ace ventura as a lawyer/God/thief" choices
of course, i'm biased, because basically anything jim carrey does i'll watch i really respect him as a talented actor

He also did an excellent job as the Riddler. He was probably the best part of Batman Forever. 12/6/2005 12:00:42 PM |

I have always hated Jim Carrey. . . until 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' -- and suddenly I'm able to forgive him for every heinous comedic part he has done in the past. He just impressed me so damn much. 12/6/2005 6:53:14 PM |

^^ truman show, man in the moon, the majestic, and eternal sunshine are all examples of the kind of acting jim carey is actually capable of when he's not playing rehashes of his dumb&dumber, liar liar, etc. roles. 12/6/2005 11:36:33 PM |
