UNC has athletic ability, and hansbrough is at least a presence inside. Not sure about him defensively, but then again im not sure about brackman defensivley.

I dont think that UNC has an answer for us rotating B-rac and little head in and out though.

Bethel was dropping 3s all over Alabama, I really don't think he is going to try and take over the team. The man has never smiled, how is he going to try and be the face of a team!

Besides that, I watched UNC/Davidson the other night and while UNC beat them badly, there were several times where it looked like a game of high-school basketball. With the way our team has been playing, and as focused as they're going to be for this one, we should win.

Hansbrough won't be able to handle the defense that Simmons and Brackman will play, I mean, Davidson probably didn't have anyone over 6'4 on their team and they still beat him a few times with swarming defense.

I would like to think we have better on the ball defenders than USC, who was able to totally dominate UNC's guard play. If they cant get the ball inside, they're fucked, and I think our D will force them into similar situations they faced against USC....plus we're better offensively than them. I dont want to get overconfident, but we should win this one...i'm just worried about the choke factor.

I think this will be a big game psychologically for our team. If they are able to go on the road and beat a "ranked" ACC program, especially UNC, I think our team's confidence will sky rocket. UNC is notorious for beating us with lesser teams, and to go on the road to a place like the Dean Dome and get a victory(especially if we dominate like we did GW), I think we'll make a little run over the next few tough games.

But if we come out and we lose, I think we're gonna be in trouble over the next few games. I hope Herb has the guys ready, we don't need to choke tomorrow. We have the better team, but that rarely matters between us and UNC.

With that being said...I think UNC wins by 5 UNLESS we shoot lights out(double digits) from beyond the arc and either Ced or Brackman take over the low post.

We CAN win and we SHOULD win, but I always have a bad feeling going up against UNC, guess I'm a pessimist, haha.

I hate the days leading up to the Carolina games in any major sport.

The appearance of an absolutely ridiculous inferiority complex comes over State fans for some reason. I know it's just hate but it REALLY comes off as jealousy.

You can flame me if you please but it is painfully obvious..

They can't shoot threes and have a poor free throw percentage = loss to a solid team like NC State.

The only way they win is if we turn the ball over > 20 times and they score tons of points off transition baskets.

Like I said in the other thread talking about the ESPN power ratings, this is the toughest stretch of our entire season coming up over the next 5 games. We need to steal one of the 3 road games coming up (UNC, Duke, Boston College) and win both home games (Georgia Tech, Wake Forest). Pull that off and we're sitting at 4-2 in the ACC and should have plenty of confidence heading into the stretch run. This game I think is our best chance along this current stretch to take one on the road although I wouldn't completely rule out winning all of them. On the other hand, if we go cold from the outside and start to panic and take bad shots, we could lose all of them.

I like our chances heading into this one from what I've seen of the two teams thus far, and we should head north next week with a 2-0 mark in the ACC. As has already been said here, we have the better team this time out, but this being a rivalry game its a prime example of why they play the games instead of just comparing on paper and pre-determining a winner.

This is my pre-game analysis...

DEFENSIVELY:

the entire defensive strategy focuses on shutting down Hansborough inside. I'd expect Simmons and Brackman to rotate in and out taking turns guarding him. UNC's shot selection is poor-terrible, so as soon as we take away the inside, they will force crappy shots and turn the ball over. I'm perfectly happy with Wes Miller taking 3's from halfcourt, our perimeter defense is solid.

OFFENSIVELY:

I think working the ball inside to Simmons early would be a really good tactic to try to get not only him involved in the offense but also draw some cheap fouls on Hansborough. Limiting Hansborough's playing time in turn would be crucial. We dump it in to Ced, he either scores, gets fouled, or opens up the perimeter for 1 of our multiple guards capable of swishing 3's from anywhere on the court.

THE X-FACTOR:

Athleticism.
Last year UNC was clearly more athletic, but I believe that this year we hold the advantage with the likes of Bennerman, Brackman, and Evtimov (who trimmed down significantly). UNC wont be able to run the floor like they love doing, and our transition defense could be the difference.

I'm looking forward to a nice big win 2morrow in the Dean Dome, and RESPECT baby! This game means something and "could be the stepping stone for a lot of great things"...hehe.

my take is that for unc to have a chance, terry absolutely has to have a good game. i'm talking like 18+ and 7. he's the only one with a clear athletic advantage, so he needs to step up. it could be a long night if he has another usc type game
