Because we have a stable economy, a system made to support and encourage entreprenuers and small business, the best higher education system in the world, et al.

Based on WHAT? If you want to do a comparison of Military achievements, then no, not at all. The only militarily superior things that has come out of Russia in the modern era are the MIG's and a couple of their gunship helicopters. And their infantry rifles. The MIG's and heli's are a direct result of the fact that they simply had a SHIT TON more people working on them, and were basically under prospect of death if they failed or fucked up.

If you want to look at TODAY, Russian science is funded by US and European business. And there isn't much noteworthy, at least in the consumer space, coming out of Russia.

Maybe you don't realize this, but now more than half of the "Japanese" cars in the US are made in the US by US workers. And it's growing FAST. There really isn't much of a Japanese or American auto industry anymore. It's just the auto industry. Half their cars are not only made outside japan, but are also designed here.

VW has farmed out the production of 3/4 of its vehicles abroad and half it's employees are outside Germany as well.
BMW has 60% of it's production outside of Europe.
Opel is Ford.
Porsche doesn't even make 100k units a year.
