Yea, I think we have to just realize that against UNC and Duke we are going to be in foul trouble -- Ced especially.. We just have to play through it, of course, and hit our shots.

Duke is certainly beatable so I expect this game to be close. We are going to need to rely on Bennerman, Atsur, and Evtimov to keep the team together when JJ hits a few shots in a row and gets Cameron going crazy.. That might be the biggest key to the game... keep the snowball from rolling down the hill..

We match up a lot better against Duke than UNC, even with UNC's freshmen. State/Duke run a very similar gameplan.

like i said earlier. why are we so quiet? our students only get loud when someone dunks blocks or hits a 3 then right back quiet again. unc wake duke maryland and clemson are all louder but rbc has one of the best setups. uva would be louder with a decent team.

I wouldnt say we match up with duke better schematically.

- they are the best perimeter defense in the league
- they over play the wings, which pretty must disrupts our offense a lot
- they have the best big in the league to clean up stuff on the inside (backdoor cuts, etc)

Clemson and VT played duke closely by forcing the issue inside. I just don't see us doing the same thing. Ced will not do a lot against williams. The balance inside will have to be tipped by brackman or evtimov or a posting up/slashing bennerman. Grant's penetration ability might even be called for, if only he knew how to finish or pass to the open guy.

Wasn't Bennerman the one who held JJ to like 8pts a year or two ago?

I know atsur checked JJ like this once, but we still lost the game. It's not just one player that checks JJ -- the whole team would have to chip in to play the barrage of (moving) screens correctly. In the last game we won, JJ got his points, but the rest of the team did not. That's worth thinking about.

I was a carolina fan until I came to State! Now I am all wolfpack. I went to every Carolina game last year and there is no way you can say they are louder, Unless you consider boo's loud. They only cheer when the game gets close.

I think we are one of the must ruckus places to play in the ACC second to Dook.

One place that gets no credit for being super loud and hard to play in is when teams have to play at Wake Forest. Those huge bricks and spinny things are so funny!

what he said especially about overplay the wings, thats all you have to do against ncsu beacuse none of our players can take anyone off the dribble

I really think one key for us will be transition D. One of few problems I saw in the GT game was we had trouble getting back on defense quickly.

I think we'll do fine as long as we don't get intimidated by the crowd and then try to shut them up by forcing up 3s or doing other things that we don't normally do

We are the best team Duke will face since Texas and because this is an ACC game and semi-rival, we have an advantage over Texas. If I was on Duke, I would be very nervous and worried about the game... We have a better chance to win than any team thus far... That being said, if we execute the way we did against Boston College, we could come home with a W...

^so because ncstate has beaten duke years ago and CONTAINED jj 2.0 (1 dementional jj). completely different team and jj will get his points. the keys will be to get sheldon williams in foul trouble, contain jj without giving other people easy stuff, knocking down a really good % from 3, taking care of the ball(being patient on offense) and keeping ced out of foul trouble.

Yeah like a Duke player will get in foul trouble in Cameron with Ratface cussing the refs out.

Im gonna guess Ced plays 15 minutes fouls out, then Brackman fouls out as well later.

Duke can do it without SheWill, see Duke @ Wake. keeping Redick in check is the big key, when he hits, teams tend to zero in on him, and that's when he drives or dishes and creates havoc for opposing defenses.

socrates I don't feel like looking up statistics to shut you up. Duke consistenly shoots more free throws than every other team in the ACC. Get Duke's dick out of your mouth and get of The WOLF Web with all that shit.

^that couldnt possibly be because dook consistently wins and the team winning typically gets fouled down the stretch. padding their freethrows. and also ft attempts are usually directly proportional to a players unstopability and Duke tends to recruit the best players in the acc.

but i fogot....ncstate is really the best in the acc every year but the refs have a conspiracy to call fouls for duke and unc im sorry

Haha if that is the case, Julius Hodge might be the most UNSTOPABLE player ever....cause prolly 50% of his points came from the line. You are impossible to argue with.

hodge was pretty damn unstopable when he got the ball in the right situation. he wasnt acc player of the year for nothing.

also a "herb" offense surely wont lead the acc in ft attempts. another reason to fire him.

NCSU 75
DUKE 63

http://html.wral.com/sh/blogger/wralglenn.html

Quote :
"Five Reasons State Can Beat Duke

Granted, this list would be easier to write in the other direction.

Duke is, deservedly, rated the No. 1 team in the nation. Most of the time on Wednesday night, the Blue Devils will have the two (J.J. Redick, Shelden Williams) best players on the floor. Mike Krzyzewski loses at home about as often as Dick Clark is on live television at midnight. So, yes, the title of this article easily could have been "25 Reasons Duke Will Beat State."

But the Wolfpack really can beat Duke this time. Here's why:

(1) Experience -- Without it, forget it. Trying to win a basketball game in Cameron Indoor Stadium with lots of freshmen and sophomores in key roles is like trying to win Best Picture with Keanu Reeves as your leading man. Don't bother.

N.C. State's starting lineup consists of three seniors (Tony Bethel, Cameron Bennerman, Ilian Evtimov), a junior (Engin Atsur) and a sophomore (Cedric Simmons). All but Simmons have logged enough minutes in major college basketball to be eligible for the NCAA's pension plan.

Remember, when Virginia Tech had its almost-win in Durham earlier this season, the Hokies did it with four juniors and a sophomore getting most of the minutes. Same with Maryland last year.

(2) Balanced Scoring -- One of the many things Coach K's defenses typically do very well is take the opponent's best scorer out of his comfort zone. Top perimeter players often are defended with one and a half men, elite posts with quick double-teams. Neither tactic is particularly necessary, or effective, against State.

With four players in double figures and seven averaging between 7.9 and 12.2 points per game, the Wolfpack is one of the most balanced offensive teams in the nation. Moreover, of the seven rotation players (five starters, plus forward Andrew Brackman and guard Gavin Grant), all but Simmons and Grant are serious threats from 3-point range.

(3) Good Guards -- Bethel and Atsur certainly aren't going to make anyone in Raleigh forget about Chris Corchiani and Rodney Monroe, but they're both smart, efficient, two-way players who aren't rattled by physical defense or hostile environments.

Like Virginia Tech, N.C. State doesn't cough up many turnovers, and like everyone else Duke is much more vulnerable when it's not getting easy fastbreak buckets. Atsur (47.6) and Bethel (49.2) are the Wolfpack's most accurate 3-point shooters, and Atsur's assist-turnover ratio (2.32) ranks behind only Hokies guard Jamon Gordon among ACC players.

(4) Defensive Matchups -- If you face Duke without one defender who's quick and/or savvy enough to stay with Redick outside, and another who's strong enough to battle Williams inside, you're probably going to end up looking like Mike Tyson against Buster Douglas: scared, confused and beaten, then crawling around searching the floor for your mouthpiece.

Redick has said that Atsur, a cunning defender, gives him as much trouble as anyone in the conference. Bennerman, another likely matchup, is exactly the kind of quick, exceptional athlete who has given Redick problems at times, even this season. Simmons, a 6-9, 233-pound center who's second in the ACC (to Williams) in blocked shots, is exactly the kind of post presence who can contain Williams, who's most productive when he overpowers his foes.

(5) Princeton Principles -- First, my apologies to N.C. State coach Herb Sendek. He recently reacted to this phrase the way many of us would react to, say, root canal, tax audit or Duran Duran reunion. Furthermore, the Pack hasn't leaned on its Princeton principles nearly as often this season as in recent years.

The most common way to beat Duke's infamous, often-suffocating, man-to-man defense is with dribble penetration. (Again, see Virginia Tech.) That's not necessarily a great strength of this year's State team, but one other way to make the Blue Devils pay for their aggressiveness in the passing lanes is to beat them with back-door, Princeton-type passes.

Is this a prediction? Not really. I save most of those for the preseason, the postseason and the stock market, and even there I'm a mutual fund kind of guy.

But I agreed with Krzyzewski when he recently said that no college basketball team will finish undefeated this season, and I believe the Wolfpack's trip to Durham on Wednesday night represents the Blue Devils' most dangerous home game of the year."
