yeah but that just shows that he doesn't have only the big games marked on his calendar he takes things one game at a time to focus on. I really think for his part it's a minute detail to keep up with.

XM was playing the duke feed of the game. IN post game, Coach K was pretty up front about how they won:
They planned to shut down the 3 and give up the inside and they did. He thought duke played better in the first half too -- we only got some fast break points to get up.
In the second half, he said they called a lot less plays and did much better. In the first half, he said we were playing like we knew their plays and counters for their plays. As a result, they decided to just run a general motion offense and let their players make plays -- obviously that worked.
Lastly, he observed that we couldn't score against them in the half court in the second half. -----
Anyway, same shit different year. K knows how to win in any situation.

We can't beat athletic teams? Miami has only athletes, as well as GT and BC. Duke has similar players to us (but better) and run a lot of the same system with bringin the big man to the top and setting a lot of screens. Carolina is very athletic as well, but they will all be on the bench next year. 1/18/2006 9:36:23 PM |

Alright...for clarification
Athetic teams that run the court with super-talented players.
Miami? I could play for Miami GT? Young. Somewhat talented, but young....very young. GW? Comparing their talent with UNC's is just wrong.
UNC always runs circles around us. Duke is pretty athletic, but they play more of a halfcourt, methodical offense like State does. UNC runs at full throttle, and they always run us off of the court. I'd rather play Duke than UNC any day.

I'm not going to read the thread because I'll probably just roll my eyes. Here is my ONE thought:
The best two teams in the ACC played tonight at Cameron Indoor. It was a hard fought game and both teams showed why each will go a long way this year. Duke took away a strength and we found another. We lost to a very talented and experienced team and I hope we get another crack at them come March.
Good.. no GREAT game Simmons. I liked the adjustment to go inside when it was apparent Duke was overplayig the wings. Cedric said two things in the postgame that sum it up:
1) "We'll just have to get them back in the ACC tourney" 2) "We need to learn, as a team, how to FINISH"
Can't wait until Saturday afternoon. For the first time in forever it seems like the team just can't wait to get 'the bad taste out of their mouths' instead of feeling sorry for themselves.
GO PACK!!! 1/18/2006 9:40:29 PM |

Cameron was loud, but I thought it was actually louder for the Maryland game... maybe because I was stoned
Regardless, I was at the game and I'll just give you my thoughts whether you want them or not: 1. Simmons was a beast, I can't tell you how many times I heard Dook fans cussing at him and just generally whining about him fouling all the time. At one point the students were chating to the refs "Watch Simmons hook!" That just means that he was a man tonight.
2. Grant needs to hang on to the damn ball
3. McRoberts' mom is a total MILF
4. We played a hell of a game, we gave the #1 team in the country a run for their money and those Dook fans about shit themselves. 1/18/2006 11:30:54 PM |

I was looking at an independent Duke fan site dukebasketballreport.com after the game and saw this quote from the guy who runs the site for the most part:
"The final score was 81-68, but if this was an 13 point win then the South won the war. State gave Duke all it wanted. The difference was that Duke knew what to do in the closing minutes and State hasnt completely figured it out yet. We said the other day that they were good enough to win the national championship, and nothing we saw Wednesday convinced us otherwise. That's a heck of a team they have in Raleigh."
It is nice to see that kind of respect for our team after we play Duke. 1/19/2006 1:07:19 AM |
skokiaan All American 26447 Posts user info edit post |
well, it was really a 6 point game before we started fouling. however, that guy's an idiot. he underrates poise at end of game situations. you can't win 6 games in a row without facing adversity and overcoming it.
We simply don't have the poise and mentality to win in end game situations. All 3 of our losses have come from an inability to put together an offense when we need the points the most and when they are defending the best.
We don't have a playmaker, someone who will step up and will us toward victory. Somehow our worst play maker always ends up with the ball -- evtimov, atsur. A playmaker is someone who is supposed to draw the other teams defense and create some sort of imbalance that we can exploit.
As of today, ced is about the only guy who can do that. Too bad the rest of the team switches to julius hodge mode and just stands around, expecting ced to win the game by himself.
Better coaches on better teams regularly can pull out close wins.

However this article that was posted in chit chat

is mostly on the money. Duke has a solid, respectable program without the amount of thugs and arrogant A-holes that UNC has. Duke thinks just as highly of themselves, but arent as rude about it. 1/19/2006 2:28:33 AM |

True, but it's still relatively early in the season. This team still has an opportunity to learn. Another good win streak, and our confidence will be on the upswing going into the postseason.
A few encouraging quotes from the AP article:
Quote : | "That's the best team we've played," Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "They know what they're doing and they do it well. It's a big win for us." |
Could just be coachspeak, but still nice to hear.
Quote : | "We've got to learn how to finish," Simmons said. "It was kind of the same thing that happened at the Carolina game. But I got some confidence and I learned that I can play with the best." |
