Without giving away too much, I can say that I would have hoped for a more open-ended final scene, but I always want that so that's okay.

the ending was a little too "lets-wrap-this-thing-up-with-a-little-bow-and-explain-how-everything-tied-in-together", but the movie was too bad ass for me to be bothered.

I thought this movie was easily worth my money.

Probably too smart for most people. To be honest, some of the people were confused....

I think if you're trying to follow every single word you won't be able to do that.

If you can allow yourself to just sit there and enjoy it, you will.

that's why i enjoyed the "let's wrap everything up" ending. because without watching it a few more times, i wouldn't have been clear on what the hell happened. i still may not be. besides, isn't that sort of ending typical for that film noir type of movie?

oh, and it wasn't a total wrap... the femme fatale walks off the screen and we never really know what happens to her. maybe she gets the brain to hatch an escape plan for her, she seemed to have him pretty under her thumb.

I can't argue against Shadowkat in much the same way that that guy in that movie (Robin Hood?) refused to fight against his father's blade.

But Brick is really good. And you can see Claire from LOST be a junkie, at least.

Showtimes this week are 4:15, 7:15, and 9:35.

SEE THIS MOVIE! I'm seriously, you guys, this is one of the best films we've ever played. It's fucking beautiful.

THIS IS YOUR LAST WEEK TO SEE IT! The numbers everywhere in the triangle were surprisingly low, so the distributor has decided to pull it. Last show is Thursday. Don't miss this movie.

Fuck, I have to find the time to see it again.

If this is the biggest dilemma I face all day, that's not all that bad, I suppose.

I watched two movies on Tuesday, two movies yesterday....I might be able to pull three movies today.

"Hi all,
So the Brick DVD hits the shelves tomorrow at a friendly retailer near you. But I am not using this annoying mass bulletin to get you to buy the DVD. How crude and pimp-like. No, this message is actually to let you know about something that's absolutely free.

To make up for the rather skimpy DVD features (no Joe on the commentary, I know, he was working that month!) I've decided to post the Brick screenplay online, as well as the original novella which was a sort of treatment I wrote before the first draft. The novella has beautiful original illustrations by Naeim Khavari, and the script has a few moderately interesting footnotes.

And it's all free free free. Here's the link:

http://www.rcjohnso.com/BrickScript.html

Enjoy!

Rented it last night and loved the whole kids playing adults act. Loved seeing shaft as the AVP. I also hate "lets-wrap-this-thing-up-with-a-little-bow-and-explain-how-everything-tied-in-together" movies in general but I can get over it for this film.

but holy shit, this flick is fantastic. I could watch it twice more today.

There was one line, about 2/3rds of the way through, where I was convinced that JGL had stopped speaking English.

Other than that, I had no trouble. I loved the camera work during the fights.

I think it'd help me to see it a second time, because I thought that happened at least 10 times. I need to stop watching movies when I'm sleepy, though, too.

There were a few places where I was just like "Jigga what?" It wasn't that big of a deal, though. You could miss half of the dialogue and there'd still be more leftover than most films of twice the length.

The best part was the ending

Worst movie I have ever seen (and i saw blair witch project)

its also intresting to note, its sometimes mentioned in tv reviews for black level testing because of how poorly it was filmed (lighting)

Brick was not poorly filmed. Brick was made beautifully in the noir style. The quote YOU provided, in fact, says that there is a great level of detail in the film. I don't know a single person whose opinion has any weight in my book who didn't love this movie.

A great level of detail anyone who isn't passing BTB cant even see because the dip shit film kids who shot the movie made it overboard fucking ugly on purpose.

I had no idea there was an entire collective of noir style film obsessives. Enjoy your noir movies , just don't recommend them to people who actually like substance in a film (playing off some gimmick film style that died years ago for a fucking reason does not count) .

At this point I am just trolling you and getting you angered. I expect at least a page on how successful the film was, how the saturation of the camera wasn't fucked up, and a list of other moves in the last few years with noir style to prove it is in fact not a dead genre.

by 9pm 1" margins

BTB - black levels below reference 16

Black levels. Wowzers. Next can we talk about 16-band equalizers like the guy in Ghost World?

I saw the detail just fine even with the shitty-ass projector they have in Caldwell.

Seriously, though, I'm no great lover of noir. I am, however, going to make a white telephone film.

The first 10-15 minutes I didn't really know what to make of this movie. The dialogue was strange and the noir style set in high school threw me off.

Then 3rd Rock knocks the mortal shit out of this guy and I was hooked.
I've watched this at least 10 times and always pick up something new. This is how you make a great film with limited resources.
