Facism (the most accurate term for it), is definately on the rise again in Europe, especially in Southern-Central Europe. Its become a big issue especially in soccer. Nationalist-Facist groups buy up whole blocks of seats and coordinate racist, pro-nationalist chants against opposing national teams. The worst culprits are the Italians and the Spaniards. This gets ugly at games involving England and France, two teams with marquee black players.

I think this kneejerk reaction is more of a result of the muslim world being exposed to differing opinions and cultures through global media for the first time rather then anything else.

When you have a closed society for decades and suddenly Sat. TV is bringing you heavily biased news from around the world, you tend to react in the manner the programmers intended.

A "Media induced frenzy" should not be a new concept to American's and I find it ironic that people in this country, of all countries, are surprised by this.
