Post on Craiglist (not mine by the way!) shows all pups/dogs that need to be rescued from this shelter or they will be gassed. Also has some sad stories from the animals. Please read! as i look down at my feet and see the peaceful sleeping puppy we rescued only a few weeks ago..

all look fairly healthy and attractive (easy to find homes for).


i'm half tempted to go pull them from there and drop them off at the intake facilty in Garner.

Johnston County shelter is full now b/c of the pit bulls from the big dogfighting ring bust there. So they don't have room for other animals.

OMG- all of those puppies in kennels k-15, 16 & 17 were surrendered by the same owner. Urghhh get your pets spayed & neutered. I would looooove to have a talk with the owner

5 golden retriever mix puppies ~ 10 wks old, listed as urgent (owner surrenders)
will be gassed if not rescued within the next day or so

4 husky mixes ~ 10 wks old, picked up as strays
available 3/09 and willl have a few days after that

any rescue orgs have foster room?

i'm maxed out but i can help with transport

A lot of the rescue groups will be @ the Vet school open house April 1st. Come out and find out more information about all the diffrent rescue orgs and what you can do to help them out.

No, Danielle & I rescued the puppies from animal control but we both volunteer & foster for different rescues.

more dogs and puppies that will be euthanized tomorow (wed) at the Franklin Animal Control.
the ones listed as urgent will be put down first. litter of 4 puppies, a pit mix, a husky mix, and a few others i think. the 3 (2 &1) shep mix pups have been there for awhile too their time might be up..

once again its free to get animals from there.

free is a matter of perspective. a lot of people would argue its not free if its gonna cost you $90 or whatever to have it spayed and neutered and given shots.

and shes 4 months old now! growing up fast!

we just got back for a bike ride. i can ride through the trails and she runs right next to me. then we stopped at a creek and she chased minnows!

shes doing great. house/crate trained, has her basic commands down (sit, stay, come, go home, down), etc. shes really social. she plays w/ all the big dogs at the dog park and is calm even around crazy dogs while walking, etc. and she walks well on a leash and w/ a bike.

SHES AMAZING.

this always gets me down I wish I had room to foster. Hopefully after next year we'll get a house w/ a yard, then I can foster.

Is there any adoption fee at franklin county? or do you just go pick one up? I'm assuming none, since they dont do any vacs or anything like that.

the shelter only lets animals that seem adoptable leave the center. ie: those who aren't aggressive
but i dont think they do very much screening. so its up to us to screen them. but puppies generally have good temperments. even the feral strays we've pulled have warmed up after a few days.
i've pulled 14 puppies from this shelter now.

i'm gonna try and find them homes on my own for a few days/week before placing them in a foster program. i've had great luck doing this.

these 2 seem to be in excellent health. kinda skinny but i'm putting weight on them. no sign of fleas or worms in stools (but you cant tell 100% that way). i'm gonna give them one round of dewormer today.

for everyone who was interested in the yellow lab puppy i had.
there is an identical looking female at the same shelter. she looks purebred.
she's available next monday for adoption (free). i can give you directions to the shelter. about 35 min from raleigh.

there's also 2 8 wk old lab mix puppies that are available now.

along with 2 shep mix pups. one is black with a white spot - little female. (runt of the litter) and the other looks like a shepherd (boy i believe). available now.

the 2 shep mixes will probably be put down tomorow if no one rescues them.

i know i'm probably the only one who cares but just in case anyone is looking for a puppy or dog or cat or kitten - the shelter i keep bringing attention too is once again FLOODED with animals. close to or more than 40 animals in there. this place is bursting at the seams. they will have to start putting down animals as soon as they are brought in.

if you've been considering getting a new pet - take a look at the site and consider saving a life.
its free to get an animal from this shelter but the animals receive no shots or any vet care so they need to get to a vet asap (especially puppies).
or if you volunteer for a rescue org and have space..

i can give you easy directions or you can get them off the website

i'd go get more but i have 7 dogs in my house right now. (2 of which are fosters that i rescued from death row at this shelter) plus my roommates dog, cat, and my 12 reptiles.

damn, its stuff like this that makes me wish I was in Raleigh. My baby girl (2.5 year old rescued Pit/AmStaff) would love to have that white staff to play with . . . .

I emailed a co-worker about that bulldog, but I cant find it on the shelter's petfinder.org site. is it gone already?

well it was either rescued or put down

owner surrenders get put down first vs strays they keep for a few days (in case owner comes to claim)

lets hope it was rescued.
i get emailed updates from the volunteers there. so if i hear i'll let ya know.
