"I don't think you guys understand...this is ESPN's fault, not the cable company's.

ESPN is trying to charge cable companies out the fucking ass to carry this channel. I've heard it's ridiculous price that their pitching. And as much as I would probably pay for it, and a few other die hard college fans would pay for it, there aren't that many other people that see it as a high priority. I mean...would you pay that much extra to watch one NC State game a year?? I would pay it just because I love college basketball and I'm sure they'd have a good college football game on every now and then...but that's about it. It's not a huge market. Between ESPN, ESPN2, local stations, cbs, abc, nbc, espn classic, FSN....there are enough channels that will get the good games on. ESPNU is carrying a good game every now and then to try and push the cable companies to pay a ridiculous price to pick them up.

I say fuck ESPN"

Not only that but it seems to me that they could have allowed Raycom/Jefferson Pilot in on the contract for this the so it could at least be broadcast locally in the ACC markets. I mean granted the UNC/Duke game isn't on the same scale marketability wise as the game for 2nd place in the ACC sadly, but every year The Rivalry is split between the two broadcasting companies. Locally JP airs the game and ESPN blacks out in those markets while the rest of the country views the game on ESPN.

Since ESPN knows ESPNU isn't carried by many markets they denied a primary audience the right to view the game when they could have allowed JP/Raycom in on the contract for rights to broadcast as well. But hey, all in the name of capitalism.

"That's how ACC basketball first got popular. Besides, Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes will come up with more inside info than anything to be "heard" on TV. It's as old-school as Everett Case in a gray suit and Ron Shavlik in jersey No. 84. But try it. You'll dig it right down to your roots."

Has anybody been to Time Warner and complained about not having ESPNU? Just wondering.

^, ^^ you should read page one; this isn't Time Warner's fault. Many people already have emailed Time Warner which is a direct result of the article I posted.

WRAL owns Fox 50 and could have easily aired the game on that channel if is was WRAL's sole responsibly so the Grammy's had nothing to do with this, but that is beside the point anyway. JP/Raycom is not directly associated with WRAL or CBS. They air games and allow local stations to pickup their broadcasts, think of them the same way you view programming from 7-8 on weekdays. Really any station can pick up the shows you see during that time slot, as long as a competing station in that viewing area doesn't already have a contract for that show. They are not tied to the network. So while a CBS local station in Raleigh might air JP games, an NBC local station could possibly air them in Wilmington and so forth through the ACC viewing area.

You're right. I talked with BJ over at Comtech about it early this week... TWC hates ESPN because they charge higher than any other station. I'm glad everyone on TWW is talking about it too! Right now I'm trying to get a few in the Student Senate involved into pushing TWC to add it to our coverage area. Not that we will be the deciding factor, but 30,000 viewers isn't just a drop in the bucket. Also, how do you all feel about SG holding showings of the games we can't get on TV? I imagine there is a way to get a live feed somehow. I've just read this now so I haven't had a chance to check Yahoo as one person mentioned earlier, but what do you all think? yay, nay?

TWC isnt gonna give a fuck what we say.

But I like the idea of you showing games that arent televised. You do it...or someone does...for the UNC game at chapel hell every year in reynolds....if you could get the feed for non-televised games that would be ideal.
