I'm not going to claim to represent everyone's tastes in my list, but here were my favorite from 2005. Sometimes I hate critics because they brand their list as objective, but usually they always gravitate to indy releases and trendy shit. My list is purely based on my personal idea of good song writing, melody, and idea. The lack of hip-hop is on purpose because it is not my style....I haven't heard good hip-hop and rap since the mid 90s. (personal opinion).1. Air – Talkie Walkie2. Supergrass – Road to Rouen3. Sleater Kinney – The Woods4. New Pornographers – Twin Cinema5. M83 – Before the Dawn Heals Us6. Spoon – Gimme Fiction7. Paul McCartney – Chaos And Creation In The Backyard8. Fiona Apple, Extraordinary Machine9. Ladytron – Witching Hour10. Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt (US Re-release)

"Subjectivity is a beautiful thing that should be embraced more. It’s easier than trying to be an objective 'journalist,' and any asshole can do it. As an asshole who likes music, I feel it’s my duty to spout off a bunch of albums and tell you they were the best ones released in 2005. Here are my top five accompanied by five words of retrospection, followed by a decent amount of other albums that I can remember liking from last year.1. Silver Mt. Zion - Horses in the Sky - Canadian ex-patriots warble the best.2. Jesu - Jesu - Shoegazers can wear combat boots.3. Akron/Family / Angels of Light - Akron/Family / Angels of Light - Beards are here to stay.4. Sunn 0))) - Black One - Shake me harder, Lord Satan.5. Kallikak Family - May 23 2007 - Field recordings?
