I develop software for a living and we have a significant representation of East Indians at work.

Of the ones that are "fresh off the boat" I can barely undertand them at all. I find it the most difficult foreign accent to understand for some reason. I also had trouble initially with their personal space boundaries (or I guess there lack of them) but I've gotten used to it. I find their culture extermely interesting and routinely get in discussions with a few, especailly after they get back from a trip to visit family in India. Actually just this past month one of the girls at work was venting after an extended stay in India because of her father's illness when she was home. She was struggling with the realization that she simply did not belong in India anymore.

Of the ones that are fully "Americanized"... they rock. When I think back on college some of the most memorable were Indian, definitely more so than any other non-white race. People like Aaditya Devkota and the couple in my fraternity (some might remember Raj Mirchandani, SB Pres). I knew of BobbyDigital from greek circles but never met him personally. I dunno, it just seems like Indians integrated really, really well into the groups of people I knew. Of the Indian friends I did have they dated white chicks and one of my fraternity brothers dated/married an Indian chick and it never crossed my mind that they were interracial relationships... they were just like the really tan people in the group. The Asians, Latinos, etc. that I was friends with I always thought of their ethnicity but not the Indians for some reaosn. I dunno, never really thought about it so I am sort of thinking out loud now... I'll stop.

the same perceptions are still there in retail. fucking always want "a deal" BITCH, this isn't a bazaar, we've got price tags, either buy it or don't!

I've always said Indians were like brown Jews... right down to the big noses and uni-brows.

And, FOB indians do often have bad BO (but, so do lots of overly-fat Americans... and they should know better).
