That graph is incredibly misleading.
Quote : | "Including sales of ringtones and revenues from subscription services, digital media now accounts for nearly 9 percent of recording industry revenues." |
Showing CD album "units" next to ringtone and single track download "units" is obviously going to inflate the % "units," but it sho doesn't mean that people are buying full albums on iTunes at almost the same level as they are buying physical albums at Best Buy. They also probably found a way to include Napster subscriptions into the graph.4/7/2006 2:09:09 PM |

I read the arstechnica article about the RIAA fighting independent review. I really hope the judge in this case isn't dumb enough to allow the RIAA to get there way. Otherwise it would set a precedent in the court system allowing the manufacturing of evidence against the other party. Now, I may be wrong, but that can't be a good thing. 9/5/2006 2:23:28 PM |

^ if that goes well, then the RIAA is thoroughly fucked with their "let's rape america" plan...if the average person they catch dl'ing illegal mp3s has, let's say, 2000 songs (i have no idea what the average is), that's only a $1400 fine...even if they add another $0.30 to the fine per song (which would be statutory damages of 43%), that's only $2000 fine (plus court costs)
it'll be interesting to see what happens 11/10/2006 1:31:14 PM |

You know what... an iPod has the capability to potentially carry unauthorized images, video, and audio recordings of me. Thus, the iPod was clearly designed as a tool to defame from me and nullify my ability to retain creative control over the use of my likeness and voice. Therefore, Apple, the creators of the iPod, clearly owe me a percentage of their sales. 11/30/2006 10:52:22 AM |

In other news, Universal is also pushing to get paid for every sale Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, etc. make. I mean, 200GB hard drives are just repositories for stolen music and everyone knows it. It's time they get paid for it. 12/2/2006 12:38:45 PM |

I think that is mainly a symbolic lawsuit towards Apple. They are trying to send the message to Apple that they don't want people putting illegal MP3s on their iPod, meaning that they don't want anything other than the protected m4u or whatever it is to play on the iPod.12/2/2006 1:11:47 PM |
