yeah, sounds like she printed a label for the package, which would assign it the tracking number and thus show up in the USPS system. that DOES NOT mean that she shipped that package that day. sounds like she printed the label, then waited like two weeks to ship it. I wouldn't send her anything personally. if she had sent it when she said she did, then yes, I would send her something. but if it's her fault and she was just being lazy, then she doesn't deserve anything. 3/2/2006 2:08:59 PM |

if i were in your situation, it wouldn't really matter to me whether or not she was in the wrong. i doubt i could be comfortable with myself for keeping something and essentially not paying for it. i'd pay her back and not worry about it. nothing is worth guilt. but that's me. 3/2/2006 3:28:40 PM |

I'm shocked that no one has even mentioned this but here's a win win situation:
Pay her 50% of what the price was
You don't pay full price due to the shipping error, and it makes you feel good about yourself, as if you actually paid for the item. As far as the seller's side goes, it makes them feel better because they at least get enough money to make up the cost of setting up the auction. 3/2/2006 9:19:53 PM |

my freshman year I ordered a bunch of posters off of ebay. one seller sent me the wrong poster. i complained, said I wanted the one i'd ordered. they sent me the new one and told me to return the old poster back to them. I ACCIDENTALLY FORGOT. LoLz! 3/3/2006 5:13:10 PM |

You're the type of customer businesses hate. The ones that complain over stupid shit. It was 2 weeks to ship. Figure easy average of 3 business days to ship normaly, assuming no weekends in between. It wouldn't be too hard to make it out to a week, and if the post office fucked up (which they can and do) it could easily be delayed further.
And something was up with the post office recently. I was supposed to get a paycheck on the 24th. It was mailed from austin texas (and post marked there) on the 22nd. It finaly arrived on the 2nd with a second postmark from a local office on the 1st. It took a week to send presorted first class mail that gets sent every 2 weeks. I could easily see a package getting lost for 2 weeks.
Pay the woman. It isn't/wasn't her fault the post office screwed up, and it wasn't your fault. Sometimes shit happens, and the world would be so much nicer if people accepted that fact.3/4/2006 10:04:57 PM |

it doesn't take 2 weeks to ship from Charlotte to Raleigh (including post office fuck-ups). hell, 3 business days is stretching it. in two weeks she could have walked from Charlotte to Raleigh and delivered it by hand.3/4/2006 11:34:29 PM |

If nothing else, you will instill some small shred of faith in humanity to a person who probably has to deal with annoying ebay fuckers all day long.
I think that's worth a few bucks. 3/5/2006 1:50:38 AM |

If it was mailed Priority (which I assume it was) then its guaranteed in 3 business days, and usually arrives sooner. From Charlotte to Raleigh I'm pretty damn sure Priority is one business day.

You're making a huge assumption here: that the lady mailed the package promptly. If she took two weeks to mail the package, then the customer is obligated to some sort of compensation. I've sold at least 400 items on ebay, and the only way I maintain a 100% feedback rating is taking care of customers. If i'm horribly late mailing a package, I compensate the customer with a credit. It may only be $5-$10, but they appreciate it and leave me glowing feedback.3/5/2006 12:29:48 PM |

^ And you're making a huge assumption that she didn't. The post office doesn't fuck up all that often, but in my experience, when they do, it's a huge fuck up. Like routing your package to the wrong area of the country and back again.
Are you saying that if you were late mailing something out you would send them back all the money? Because that's what this woman did. That's a very stupid price to pay for something that you did wrong. It would be easier and cheaper to do a smaller refund and just apologise and then if they raise cain, offer the rest of the money back.

It also doesn't take 8 days to mail a presorted piece of mail from Austin TX to Raleigh. I know this because I recieve my paycheck the same day every 2 weeks. And since everyone else here got their check on time (those who still get it delivered) it's entirely possible for one item to go missing, even in the best of senarios.3/5/2006 12:48:00 PM |

You assumed, I did not. This entire thread hinges on when the lady mailed the package, thats why I've always used the word if.

As a seller, thats how I choose to compensate customers if I am in the wrong. If this lady offered the product for free because she is in the wrong, thats her decision as a seller.3/5/2006 3:57:05 PM |

customer doesnt technically deserve anything. by ebay/paypal rules i think you can take up to 2 weeks to ship without any consequences. is it the best customer service? no, but i dont think you should get negative feedback necessarily either.3/5/2006 6:51:42 PM |

where do you read your ebay/paypal terms at? http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_spp-outside Paypal says order must be shipped within 7 days of receiving payment.3/6/2006 12:14:19 AM |

no doubt, i agree with you, im just saying that it isnt against any policy and so they arent really entitled to anything.
if they had a decent excuse i might just leave them neutral or no feedback (cuz you know they'll just leave you negative anyway so it aint worth it much of the time). unless i got a fantastic price on an awesome quality item, then positive might be in order. 3/6/2006 10:08:09 AM |

so wheres the line for you then, in terms of how long it takes to ship an item? If the seller waits 4 weeks to ship an item is the customer entitled to any sort of compensation?3/6/2006 10:40:13 AM |
