btw yall guys DO know that Barnes has a clause in his contract that he can leave Texas for one of the Big Four schools (NCSU, WAKE, UNC, DUKE)
I mean, why would Roy Williams leave Kansas?
or we could go after Derek Whittenburg from Fordham...he could at least please the fans for like a year or two til we started getting 1st round knockouts from the NIT] 3/11/2006 1:36:02 PM |

If you don't dream big, then don't dream at all. If you fire Herb, you must go after a big name or two first. Barnes is a proven winner (hell, he took Clemson to the Sweet 16), a proven recruiter (had two Top-10 recruiting classes at Clemson, many more at Texas), and understands the importance of rivalries (consistantly has beaten OU, TAMU and TX Tech).
If you can't get him or Calipari, then like I said, do a nationwide search for a guy with 5+ years of head coaching experience and 15+ years of overall coaching experience that has shown he can recruit, win the big games, and beat his rivals. 3/11/2006 2:24:19 PM |

Whitt did a hell of a job bringing up Wagner College to their first NCAA bid. He has taken Fordham in two years and brought them to their first .500 or better season (finished 16-16), their best finish since 1991-1992. He might not be a bad hire, but it would probably have to be a few years down the road. He is also making good in-roads with New York HS coaches, so there are some great recruiting ties already. 3/11/2006 2:27:21 PM |

rick barnes all the way, second choice calipari, its time for a change...and i want chucky brown and tom burrelson on the staff chucky for post player coaching (and motivating our players to beat unc) and burrelson for referee intimidation, some people who care about nc state and not just themselves and their own basketball philosophy. on another note ive been reading posts this afternoon watching the games and swlpack is so my new favorite person, intelligent. 3/11/2006 2:52:23 PM |

YES LETS HIRE A COACH WHO WENT .500 IN THE FUCKING A-10
My top 3:
-Karl Hobbs -the guy from UAB (nasty defense, "100 minutes of hell" style like Nolan Richardson) -anyone who is known for a strong inside game
aw hell, what am I saying? the only coach our fans will accept will be some dirty guido.

this is all wasted typing, the only way we get rid of Sendek is if he chooses to leave, and he has faced much more heat than what he is facing now, so there is no chance in hell of him resigning. We all know Fowler wont fire him.
ps - dave noel just made a hustle play out of bounds near the unc bench and roy gave noel a high five. that is the kind of intensity that i want to see, and the kind we will never get under herb, it sucks. 3/11/2006 4:14:46 PM |

Quote : | "What a bunch of idiots you all are. You know what ticks me off the most? When people blame the teams coach. Herb is giving them real good plays but they just sometimes dont execute them. He is not on the court rebounding for them or shooting for them. It is the players that make the play. He can teach them anything, but they just have perform it on the court. Is it the coaches fault if they miss a 3 or a 2?? If you all honestly think that.... then you have nothing else in life to do but sit there and blame other people for stuff that they are not responsible for. If I remember correctly last year NC State made it to the Sweet 16. You all are blaming herb because he is not another valvino. And your also blaming him because were not Number 1. Well you guys have alot of problems. " |

Oh, but I first wanted to reply to this thread to say.....
What about Tubby Smith?
I heard (no sources, so take it how you want) that he was under consideration for the Wake job. He's taking as much heat at KY as Herb is here, if not more....and word is he wants out anyway. I dont know how I feel about him as a coach....cause you wonder if KY's downfall is permanent or not.
But....he's a class act. I'd rather have him than Barnes. And how great would it be if we snagged him away from Wake? I'd laugh.....never gonna happen though. 3/11/2006 8:18:58 PM |

Well, of course he isn't a 'victim' but that argument has some merit. Look no further then Nebreska football after Solich was fired... Callahan was about the 4th choice IIRC...
Doubt it. I'm nearly 100% certain he will be Calhoun's successor at UConn and I think he knows and wants that...
** And for the love of God quit throwing out Big East names. There is NO reason that Jay Wright, Rick Pitino, or John Thompson, III (especially him -- I think his Dad would LITERALLY kill him if he left G'Town) would come here. NONE. NONE. NONE.

Tubby Smith is an interesting choice that I would even consider an upgrade. He has a national championship and they are trying to get him out. He is familiar with NC. He went to High Point and plays golf at the Old North State Club on Badin Lake a lot.3/11/2006 10:56:30 PM |

OK, question number 1...Herb is under contract right? When does his contract expire, in other words, when would he potentially leave for another school? Cause one thing is for sure, he's not leaving before his contract is up and there is no way he is getting fired.
Besides that, I think every one agrees that the NCSU community wants a basketball coach that
A) Can first and foremost consistently recruit with competitors like K and Roy next door. B) Shows some emotion, some intensity during games. While we don't need a Roy or Bob Knight in here, we definitely need someone that can knock some sense into a player when they need it, and can rally a team to play for an entire 40 minutes. C) Can develop players with real potential into 1st-team all-ACC players and future NBA prospects.
While the comment about how many NBA players Herb has developed is poorly stated, it is still an interesting point to bring up and shouldn't be ignored all together. I've been a Herb supporter my entire 4.5 years at State, but I think it has gotten to the point that a change is definitely warranted. That doesn't mean I hate State or that I think Herb has to go tomorrow, but I really don't think NCSU basketball is going to get any better if he stays. He has taken us to five straight NCAA's and no one can take that away from him, but I for one want a coach that can lead a team to conference titles and can at least present the opportunity of a Final Four to his team/school.
That's my two cents. 3/12/2006 12:09:50 AM |

His contract only means that if we fire him, we have to pay his salary through that year. He can leave with no penalty (I do believe... right?)
His contract, from what I've heard, is through 2010. If we wanted to fire him we'd have to pay him 4 more years of salary, unless he willingly left.

Tubby isn't a very good coach, IMO. He's won with Pitino's players and that's it.
He's wanted out for awhile now becuase he knows he's about to be fired.
