only thing i can come up with is it leaves some room (tho a fucked up way to do so) for a sequel.

i beleive a lot of it is music to the game. a second would be cool cuz supposedly #2 was the best game and it had lots of pyramid head.

spoliers or whatever

It is my understanding that only #2 had pyramid head because that was just a sub boss kinda for the game. So they just took the most popular villan and ran with it.

Also, I really didnt like the fog world outside of silent hill. I mean Silent Hill is the place where the fog is. I guess you can project "limbo" anywhere but it really takes the "OMFG WTF IS SILENT HILL" aspect away from it.

It sets it up for a sequel for the husband to go to silent hill, and the demon girl still exsists, but wasnt the entire point of silent hill being a fucked up place due to that girls hatred? In addition, each game doesnt really tie into each other except for cetain things. I cant remember if the characters in each game are related. I think there is a loose connection but not sure.

Anyhoo, good movie, GREAT shock value, but a sequel will need clever writing to pull off.

^yeah the whole fog world when she goes back to the house is kinda bad.

i love the part where she had to take the hotel piece from the janitors mouth. i was on the edge of my seat. Actually that whole scene with the room turning too was creepy.

i wanted more creepy kids in the school though like the game.

but yeah it's no where as close as scary as the game because you don't control the fate of the character.

pretty good movie overall though. lots of gross parts.

the burn victim girl WAS the evil force

her nightmare has now been released from silent hill and exists worldwide for the mother and daughter. they remain trapped.

the father's gonna have to go in and dispatch of the burn victim and the little evil girl, who now currently resides in the daughter.

basically the second movie is gonna be crazy.

I just saw this.

Barbed wire through the crotch. That's about all I can say. That, and the ending wasn't really an ending at all.

I'm never a really big thriller/horror fan anyway, but eh. I wanted to know pyramid head's story, since he seemed interesting but wasn't ever explained.

Pyramid Head was a boss in Silent Hill 2 that somehow represented the main characters twisted sexual desires. In the game Pyramid Head raped random female like monsters and what not. That would have been cool in the movie but dragging two huge cast iron swords and having a swarm of evil insect things all around him was just as wicked.

did anyone else notice the apparent smoothness of the special effects (as if the framerates were especially high)? it seems like they did some major souping up of the rendering software/hardware for this one.

The reason he's laughing is because the majority of the movie was shot with dancers in latex rather than CGI. The main components that were CGI were the bugs around pyramid head and the fog.

i thought the CGI was pretty good throughout...in fact the visuals were probably the only redeeming thing about the movie

*minor spoiler but who cares because someone already mentioned it*

oh, and pyramid head ripping the skin off that girl (which actually contained one of the poorly done CGI sequences - the rendering of the girl after he ripped her clothes off)

You're right.

I didn't notice that the effects were drawn at a higher framerate than in other films.

Because I didn't realize the film was being drawn in realtime.

Here I am, dumb as shit, thinking that all 35mm films are shown at 24 frames per second, but apparently Silent Hill uses some sort of magical technology that gets around that. I did not notice that subtlety.

apparently you didn't read the "as if" part of my statement. i didn't really explain that part in detail, but i was thinking about it from the perspective of a former video game nut; when you changed settings around to get an increase in fps you noticed a smoothness in animation. i thought maybe you nerds would have some inkling of what i was talking about, but i was wrong. next time i'll spell it out for you. if it's still not obvious, i said "as if," meaning i did not actually think there was an increase in framerates for this movie at this theatre.

also, i like how you posted your technical knowledge of 35mm films to make you feel better about yourself. well i guess you have to get your feeling of superiority from somewhere. i get mine from calling you a douchebag. you fucking douchebag.

Hahahahahahaha. My friends and I went to see it when Rotten Tomatoes at it rated at a whopping 8% to see if we could watch the entire thing. I seriously wanted to tear my eyes out after that.

Alright, allow me to explain myself.

When I go see a movie (with the exception of the stray forced romantic comedy and most comedies) I look for themes.

As far as a scary movie, Silent Hill did not vary much. We get the gore, we get the creepy little girl (there seems to be a ton of movies with creepy little girls in them) and we get the demonic.

But, in Silent Hill, I saw something more than the above mentioned elements. I saw themes related to religion, purity, God, death and punishment. I also liked how Silent Hill itself was a character in the film.

Also, the soundtrack was most appropriate for the film.

And yes, I loved the ending because it left it open and in some way that 'closed' the film for me, considering the whole movie was about this horrible place called Silent Hill.

My taste in films just must be different and we'll just have to agree to disagree.
