artfags? What because designers tried to design something they thought would be a good product in the market.Just because these graduate STUDENTS submit something in a design competition doesn't mean is provides them a license to be an elitist asshole. Nor do they want to be recognized that way. These are projects that they came up with and they submitted it to see if it was good or not. They are not messages that say "HEY FUCKER, I'M BETTER THAN YOU!" or that I "LIKE THE SMELL OF MY OWN FARTS" (nice southpark reference by the way.)People are making themselves sound elitist by awful assumptions of what the products and desigers are about. So, IF you want to support two NC STATE STUDENTS who bust their ass, sign up and participate. If not, thanks you dickwad.AxlBonBach = good criticism.

If it didn't require the effort of registration & my e-mail address & full name and all that I'd vote for em even though I don't find them impressive. Maybe the design is really good, the marketing needs improvement though, b/c most people aren't experts and can't gather quality of design or how much science went into a chair. The only things they have going for them is a potentially impressive design that I can't gather from looking at pictures of them, and can't test out physically, and the fact that they are fellow students which would get my vote if it was easier. Also what does alto mean in the furniture world? Maybe I’m just spacing out if its something common that I’m not remembering. But In Spanish it means high or tall, in English the only thing I can thing of is a fairly high singing voice, but I see the word alto on something that looks kinda short and stubby.Maybe go sit a few of these out in the court of the Carolinas or something since it’s a nice day and let people use them instead of laying in the grass, get them to test them telling them about the design, and give out the website. Or find a building without much seating in the hall ways for between class times and set a few of those out there with the website written on them. I can’t really think of many good ways to market a new a chair to the world that doesn’t look impressive without getting people to actually sit down in it and feel how comfortable it is.

ok, if you say so...but my point was completely missedI'm not discrediting the fact that Ergonomics is a science so much as I am saying it shouldn't be worth kudo points for saying that an object designed for humans is ergonomic. The word ergonomic on a product for humans seems redundant, not the actual science of ergonomics.and that's fine that you think that PhDs would want to dig my hole and bury me in it, but I seriously doubt that PhDs are that childish...people criticize work all the time, but real professionals rarely overreact to such criticism...

JUST BECAUSE AN OBJECT IS MADE FOR HUMAN USE, IT DOES NOT MAKE IT ERGONOMIC
3/31/2006 12:37:17 PM
Not all products designed for humans are inherently ergonomic. Some products are designed without ergonomics brought into question. You'll notice this on the keyboard you are using. Some keyboards split up the keys, which had some ergonomic research, and some are straight forward, which usually don't use ergonomics. This is a broad generalization just because I can't think of anything else. Also, you are looking at the way the designer used ergonomics in terms of describing his chair. It's not a flashy word such as sleek, slick, ultra-modern, or shit like that. When the designer says its ergonomic, he usually means that he used ergonomic to heavily influence his design direction. So yes, it should be used for kudos points, because for one, Ergonomics is fucking hard.

the elasticity of the Aeron makes it forgiving. it is definately not similar to the resiliance of a wooden chair.
3/31/2006 2:24:25 PM
^^ not to mention that the aeron chair is adjustable as fuck, while that piece of shit chair on the first page has that painful bump on the back. omf, it's good because he made an effort to have good ergonomics A's for effort all around, my artfag friends.
