too bad he didn't say "I don't give a fuck about NC State"...then the tarholes could make shirts like ours that say, "I agree with Rick..." when he takes the job.

state would be a step up.

texas basketball is and always will be second fiddle to texas football. texas forgets about basketball about the time of the beginning of spring football practice, no matter how good or bad they did.

One could argue that texas baseball is just as big as basketball also.

plus big 12 basketball to acc basketball, acc is head and sholders above big 12.

it just depends on if he wants a lot of pressure, but a chance to be a god here, or no pressure but always being 2nd within the school.

eh, currently i agree that nc state would be a step down for barnes.

why would he subject himself to the BS that herb had to deal with (which barnes even made comments about), when he has already built a great program with great fan support in texas?

even though texas basketball may be 2nd to football, its support is still heads and shoulders above the support we have here.

Barnes has it made in Texas. He can produce somewhat "above average" results as he did this year...and never have to worry about his job. He can recruit just Texas players and always be competitive. And he can still get paid out the wazoo.

Why come to pressure-packed Raleigh for possibly a little bit more money and have every one of your moves scrutinzed??? He'd have to REALLY REALLY want to coach in the ACC and have another shot at UNC on a consistent basis. I just don't see it happening.

i agree he will be under more pressure. see my post.

but, if he wins an acc championship/ goes deep into the ncaa tourney within few years, he will be worshiped.

I guess it depends on your criteria for a step down.

according to ya'll, going from say george mason to ncsu would be a step down b/c there would be more pressure?

I would say that the amount of pressure a coach is under to win is a decent indicator of the quality (or percieved quality) of the program as a whole.

true, but if he got in roy's face and got ejected from some games it would make the losses slightly easier to stomach

We're not getting Barnes.

Coaches don't state, twice, that they won't leave their current school.

ha, i read on the Texas message board where they are making the case that Big 12 basketball is much better than ACC basketball. This is just a joke to me.

Think about the top programs in the Big 12: Texas (and only of late); Oklahoma (sometimes, but not really since Hollis Price left); ummmmm Iowa State?? back in the Eustachy era; er, well OSU (but they are heading down quick); well, you get the point.

You kind of left out a very important Big 12 team... Kansas... Not defending the Big 12, just mentioning they are pretty good, and have been for a while.

thats right, now i remember. oh well.

that still leaves the question of why would barnes come here when he has 2 hs all americans coming in next year.

[Edited on April 3, 2006 at 2:18 PM. Reason : thats not to say i dont want him to come here though]

^^once...and if you look at the context, it make perfect sense.

he was in the final 4 with kansas and he was getting asked questions about taking the job at unc. it wasnt an appropriate time for the questions, and he got upset about it.

of course, all the dumbasses over here took it as "he doesnt care about unc" which couldnt have been furthur from the truth.

the situations in which barnes was questioned was completely different then the time that williams was. its not difficult to see the differences and realize that you are comparing apples with oranges.

no he didnt. he said "i could give a shit about UNC right now." he was at the final 4 with Kansas. of course he wasnt contemplating the job...he was in the middle of working his current job. he never said he wasnt considering it at all.

the correct quote, since nobody but me seems to remember it, was

"I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT CAROLINA RIGHT NOW"

now i understand he is coaching at kansas and wasnt thinking about carolina...but if i was coaching at kansas and was an nc state alumni, i wouldnt cuss state like he did carolina...have some fucking pride roy

My sources say it doesn't matter what Roy said when considering the actions of Rick Barnes, who isn't coming to coach here. John Kruk is full of pine tar. But hey, if he somehow isn't...
