well, in high school i used to get drunk and go to the christian metalcore shows. those bands were all terrible. i was just there to show the JxC world all of my sport-themed hardcore dance moves. they usually didn't appreciate it. there wasn't much to do in lynchburg, va.
we used to host some pretty shitty screamo shows at the house where i live. sometimes i wouldn't even go inside.
i can't honestly think of any shows that i've been super pumped to see that ended up just sucking. 4/5/2006 12:00:37 AM |

I took my sister to the Warped Tour for her birthday. Every band was a bunch of makeup wearing, crying faggots who played the same two chords over and over and literally screamed their songs. Meanwhile, the crowd (whose average age was about 15) were all dressed in black, had reverse mullets, the guys wore makeup and the girls didn't, and moshed like 15 year old idiots. 4/5/2006 1:19:00 AM |

I haven't been to many so my worst still wasn't all that bad. It was Pantera. The sound techs (both times) were terrible. They ended up with way too much distortion in the sound in their attempt to make the concert louder. 4/5/2006 8:45:45 AM |

rock: lynyrd skynyrd and allman brothers at alltell a couple years ago, looked like a couple cover bands (even though they pretty much are nowadays)
rap: 50 cent w/ G Unit, Busta Rhymes, Chingy, Bonecrusher - I was given free tickets to this show, even though I'm not a fan of live rap at all, Busta Rhymes was really good live, 50 cent was absolutely terrible 4/5/2006 12:29:54 PM |

worst actual band i saw live: in high school this bunch of local fuckups opened for some friends of mine (anyone remember Natural Remedy?) at the old brewery. they were called rupture. the lead singer/guitarist broke a string during the first fucking song and just decided to play the whole set out of tune. everyone walked out and he got pissed and started yelling about how we were disrespectful.
worst audience: saw dmb play with tim reynolds. what an awesome set. the crowd couldnt give 2 fucks b/c they didnt play ants marching. the guy in front of me lit his head on fire and pissed on this girl. the only fun part was someone writing "i pissed myself at the dmb show" on his forehead in sharpie when he passed out.
runner up: back up in Providence, my sister dragged me to see HANSON at this street festival. i skipped out to see the 2nd stage band: THE DOUG FLUTIE BAND. yes, Doug Flutie plays drums for them and gets to headline. 4/5/2006 12:44:55 PM |

To those of you that didn't like the Tool shows, I have a question or two
Which tour was it? Were there not sweet visual effects? Did you go not knowing that the band would be all mysterious and Maynard would hide behind a screen or chill at the back of the stage facing a wall in his underwear?
The reason I ask is that I really enjoyed their Lateralus tour even though the band wasn't interesting to watch. They had awesome LCD effect screens and some interesting art. Also, they can create a really good sound and I really didn't expect them to be able to. Their music seems like it'd be difficult to do live, but they really knocked out the songs. The warmup band, Tomahawk, however, made me want to murder puppies and then fuck an anthill. 4/5/2006 9:53:56 PM |

Haha, you didn't have to go, dude! Hell, I wish I didn't go. It was so bad, I didn't even realize Chingy was there. If I knew who he was then and how much he sucks..I'd have stayed home my damn self.4/6/2006 1:30:52 AM |

wu-tang was pretty bad when they opened for RATM.
there were like 203498203948 people on stage just wandering around. you couldnt tell who was rapping, who was actually who was in the clan, and who were just friends they brought on stage.
i mean, ive definately seen crappier shows, but to me, the worst concerts are the ones that you go into thinking that they are going to be awesome, and they end up dissappointing. 4/6/2006 8:33:20 AM |

Also, Burning Brides was kinda shitty live too.

I think I mentioned that The Who sucked...but mostly b/c of song selection (I just don't like Quadrophenia, and they played straight through the album)
David Allen Coe was sort of disappointing, too. He played mostly covers of Kid Rock and Pantera...Now, I like Pantera, and Kid Rock is ok as an occassional guilty pleasure, but that's not what I went to see DAC for. 4/13/2006 11:27:51 PM |

Alkaline Trio at some point around 2001 in Pittsburgh. The 2 singers were drunk and ended up not playing the crowd favorites at all, even though people kept requesting them.
That Thursday show at the Brewery from 2003. Jesus, I think I paid more than $10 and drove back from Charlotte just to see them, and saw them play 4 songs before Geoff got injured.
Sonic Youth '04 at Cat's Cradle. Left after 2 hours because their double encore had devolved into just drone/noise, and the opening bands were terrible. Can't listen to them the same way since.
Like Rich was saying, innumerable local bands from the Posidome, most recently a loud rock band that played my basement. 4/14/2006 4:32:05 PM |

Wow, old thread. I had to read through to see if I already posted.
My soundtrack of my college years were filled w/ the Allman Brothers Band. I loved them w/ Duane, and even more during their run in the 1990s.
I saw Dickey Betts (kicked out of the ABB in 2000 for being a drunk) play in CLT in 2006. He was so bad that he stopped the opening of the encore, Ramblin Man because they were so off. Dickey SCREAMED into the mic STOP GODDAMNIT STOP NOW. The entire place was silent. Then they restarted Ramblin Man. Still sounded like shit.
Dickey was my favorite guitarist. And it was down right depressing to see him so shitty. 5/6/2021 1:55:42 PM |

in college i went to rascal flatts with my then gf. it was awful. they talked more than they sang, thankfully. but that talking was mostly terrible (and obviously scripted) jokes.
of concerts that i've actually wanted to attend: father john misty (went for jason isbell, left midway through the FJM set because it was so fucking bad.) probably some more that i've just completely erased the memory of.
oh and i also saw daughtry during the pre-game festivities of a bowl game in charlotte, but that was more just walking by and saying wow, this isn't good. 5/7/2021 7:34:35 PM |
