A kid is gonna fuck up whatever car you put it in--like spill shit, dribble, etc. etc. Therefore, if possible, I propose you buy a halfway reliable 4 door civic for like 4-5k, then save a little more money and get another impractical sports car. Plus you can take advantage of the gas mileage.

Think about how much of a bitch it will be trying to put a car seat in a small car with a low ride-height.

unless you buy a heavily moded 3 series coupe, you will not be thrilled with performance and you will end up always looking up whenever a nice e36 M3 drives by. also coming off from fast 2k and miata, you just wont get the same thrill, although e36 is the most fun i ever had in the car (handling and balance wise).

you are actually in the similar situation as i am with very similar choices. WRX is a great car with great potential for going fast, but design is just too _______ (fill in the blank).

anyhow, i would definetly stick with nice lower mileage e36 M3. if you look and dont mind travelling a bit for a car, you should find a something for 15k with slightly less than 100k and good records. Also, consider B5 Audi S4 ('98-'02). AWD, 2.7 twin turbo. Can be made ultra fast, just a chip and K04s away.

every mother fucker here is all about performance.

on the streets 90% of the cars will handle like a sports car.
even a 4 door civic. you can only go so fast on public streets.

you dont neeed expensive M3 just for performance or power.

a nice 3 series, or 5 series will run you much cheaper and you know that its most likely not ragged out like a black person

Yea man, just get a used Chevy Impala from the last 5 years or so and call it a day. A kid is going to fuck up whatever you put him in.

^^E36 M3 and 3-series will cost you almost the same to fix for typical waterpump or radiator or set of shocks. It will not be MUCH difference. The features between the M3 and regular E36 series are the same as between integra type-r what you drive/drove and regular civic LX.

i just told him he will probably have to look a bit if he wants a nice example. not everything is ragged out.

the whole reason i've never had a 911 before is because they weren't fast enough (not until like the mid 90s+ or the Turbos, which cost more than I want to spend).

Where I live now, there really isn't anywhere to exploit any real performance on a regular basis, though.

For that reason, I don't really want to spend the extra money on an M3, and I'm giving at least a little thought to an older 911 (although I'll prob do the E36). I don't need mega-fast right now. I'd rather have lots of extra money to invest, and then I'll get a stupid-silly-fast sports car in a few years when I'm living somewhere that I actually drive places to have some fun with it.

man, my S2000 needs to hurry up and sell so I can settle on a replacement and quit second guessing myself.

I can't decide whether to go with an E36 coupe or a WRX. I like the looks and nicer interior of the BMW...but I think a WRX would be fun for fairly cheap, and they're newer than the E36s...

of course, I offered a guy a lowball bid on a FMII turbo'd Miata tonight, so I might just end up with that and a 4 door beater.

Have you driven each? The WRX feels quite disconnected and spongy in comparison. It can be made faster, but hard to make it more fun.

man, the longer it takes to sell my S2000, the more unsure I get of what I want

323/325/328is (E36 coupes)
325/330ci (E46 coupes)
G35 coupe
RX-8
IS-300
WRX

I think the G35 will be more money than I want to spend. I'm a little less interested in the WRX, but I'd get one if I found a really good deal on one.

I'm a big E36 fan, and that would be the least expensive route to take, but it seems like you don't have to spend much more to get an early E46.

I'd like to stay <$15k, and I'd really prefer to stay around the 12k range.

Duke, have you posted your S2000 in the classifieds on S2ki.com? It seems like the best place to sell a specialized, modified car like yours. Your average person looking to buy an S2000 in the normal places (autotrader, etc) probably isn't going to want a supercharger, especially not when you can get a decent S2000 for about $17k now.

Someone in Brooklyn is selling a 2001 S2000 with 25k 12k! miles on it for $7900. They included pictures as well.

Its beyond me as to whats wrong with this car, LOL

Here's the link. http://newyork.craigslist.org/stn/car/199129272.html

Owning 2 cars while living in NYC is insanity, but I'm tempted!

Hmm, looks like something's been modified under the hood.

I had an E36 for a while before I got my Mini. It was a 97 328, and that thing was pretty much everything you could want in a car.

Fun to drive, plenty of go, comfortable, upscale interior, pretty good starage room.

I would reccomend the 3 series, they are great cars.

well, I sold the S2000 today.

i got it at 37k miles, sold it 2 years later with 63k miles and a broken stereo for a $1000 profit, so I can't complain too much, but I hated to see that one go.

called about this car today:

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/inview/detail.jsp?car_id=208774301&dealer_id=566802&car_year=2001&dealership_view_name=firstplaceautosales&sort_type=make_modelASC&first_record=1&pager.offset=0&cardist=25

thinking 325/330ci (prefer 330, but will buy 325 for right price) or G35 coupe. Also considering STi or Evo, and would get an IS300, WRX, or RX-8 if someone made an offer I couldn't refuse. Could go for E36 coupe, but most of them are too pricey for their age, in my opinion.

i'm a little skeered of their glass-jaw transmissions

they're also not that nice, and not that fast. at my price point, i won't get both, but i'd kinda like to have one or the other (nice: E46, G35; fairly fast: Evo, STi). if i were to simply go with the more inexpensive approach, i'd rather have a nice E36, but i could get a newer WRX for the same money, so I'm still giving it at least a little consideration.

dont buy an '01 E46 3-series. a lot of people complained about steering feel for that model year and i believe they had a recall as well. look for an '02 and above.

the rx8 is junk imo, in all departments. well, it doesn't handle terrible... but it's nothing great. power is a joke, and braking isn't much better. the back seat is also basically unuseable.

i don't really need a backseat except for a carseat, and the suicide doors would make that part a little easier.

still, i think i'd get tired of the styling, both inside and out, and while i guess i'm slightly concerned about the longevity of the RENESIS engine, i'm more concerned that the resale value will suck due to other people's concerns about it's longevity. i'll prob only be keeping whatever I buy for a year or two (until my next promotion, at which point I plan on buying an Elise), so I don't want to get hosed on resale.

well, got him down to $16,000. i think that's about as low as I can expect to pay for a 330ci with comparable age and mileage, and substantially less than I can get a G35 coupe for.

planning on going to get it this weekend if I can find a ride.

^yeah, i know man. it doesn't add up.

but while part of the motivation for selling my car is because I'll need something with a backseat and a trunk after my daughter is born, the other part is because with where I live and the schedule I keep, I don't really have time to put a sports car to use right now, so I figured I'd be better off selling my car for a profit and getting something less expensive (both to buy and on gas/tires/insurance), which will free up money in 2-3 years for a Lotus Elise and a partial share in an airplane...so don't worry, I haven't totally grown up just yet.

i mean, you've gotta remember...i was kinda disappointed with how heavy, sluggish, and soft my S2000 was when I first bought it (compared to my 1st-gen turbo Miata with very stiff suspension).

I don't know man, I wouldn't try to auto-x a 5 series (actually I would, but let's leave that out for this discussion), however they're very composed, and fun to drive. The engine, it's smoothness, it's sound, and power delivery is delicious. Very seductive the way that car picks up speed, and drives. They're a joy. Overall I went for an e36 m3 as well (again), but if you want something comfy w/a nice large back seat, can't beat a 540i sport.

I sympathize with Duke...I love my S2000, but it definitely wouldn't work as my daily driver. Tires are $Texas, and it burns through them like they're nothing. I can't imagine a supercharged S2000's tire consumption (although I did get to drive one for the first time, it was fun).

And I volunteer with the Big Brother program, so I take an 8 year old kid around a lot, and an S2000 definitely isn't safe for him. That's why I still keep my 4 door Civic around. That and as a drunk hauling mobile for when I'm the DD.

The CBR is basically my daily driver, lol.
