got the 10 song demo and the associated ppf files that unlock 30 songs. can not WAIT for this game. Some very fun songs. Psychobilly freakout felt fast on medium. It has to be retarded on expert! 10/30/2006 3:24:44 PM |

it was a maybe for me, cuz im not good at it (compared to konga or maybe ddr), but new developments have all but solidified a place for one next to my 360. 10/30/2006 4:27:14 PM |

I'm sort of hoping that the demo versions were slightly simplified...if YYZ is a 7th level song (out of 8) I hope I'm not disappointed, because that shit was easy on expert. 10/30/2006 5:12:10 PM |

i played the demo at bestbuy on co-op. its really fun playing with the backup and lead guitar parts. but it felt like the timing was all off even with the new guitar controller they put out with it. 10/30/2006 5:22:27 PM |

9.5 on IGN. I got the first one on PS2. When I get a 360, get GH2 on that. I heard you can buy more songs through the Marketplace. Nice. 11/7/2006 10:41:16 AM |

You can't lose homie. Both of them are "GotY" caliber. 11/7/2006 10:50:30 AM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
I'm happy to report that the demo was indeed simplified quite a bit, as the real game's Shout at the Devil (the first song) is notably more complex than the one on the demo. I guess I could be wrong, as I haven't played the demo in about a week, but there were a lot of extra flourishes in there that I didn't remember.
It's also got a really cool stats feature so you can see where which sections (first verse, solo, etc.) you messed up on.
Surrender is just as fun as it should be.
Hopefully I'll have all the songs unlocked within the next two hours and then get Sousapickle over here to christen the co-op with GnR.

^^^If you're going to have other people to play with you, GH II is obviously the better choice. Otherwise, I say FFXII 11/7/2006 1:15:29 PM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
I would say that FFXII will consume more time unless you have friends and beer around. Obviously I love GH, and though it's really fun to play by yourself, it's a million times more fun when you're playing multiplayer and/or rotating the guitar around a bunch of friends.
BTW, am I wrong in thinking that GH retailed for $39 without the guitar? The new one is $49, which is fine (and expected considering the success), but I seemed to remember the original being cheaper.

****SPOILER ALERT****
The different levels are set up as four song sets and then an encore that unlocks immediately when you pass the fourth song...the first encore is "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" and at the end your drummer explodes.

Eh, a lot of songs are harder on GH than they are in real life. "Monkey Wrench" is in drop D on a real guitar and is basically a one-finger song that amounts to some sliding figures and hammering on to power chords, but on GH it's got three-finger chords and lots of unneccessary shifts. 11/7/2006 2:30:47 PM |

misirlou was surprisingly easy on expert. hell, i thought it was the easiest one on that level. if you figured out the breaking wheel in GH1, it was pretty much the same thing.
