Knock em' down.
Why does OLN keep saying they are going to have bonus coverage of Calgary/Anaheim? The game is officially listed on their schedule, and on the NHL.com schedule as being covered by OLN. I would hardly call it 'bonus coverage'.
Red Wings win in 2OT

I'd love to see Edmonton pull it out though. 4/22/2006 2:52:05 AM |

Roli can play better, and will.
I think I overestimated the Wings with my prediction.

As for the Ducks, good on Ilya Bryzgalov for stepping up to a damn fine playoff game after Giguere hurt himself in the goddamn morning skate. 4/22/2006 2:59:18 AM |

Question. What is the difference that games in the playoffs go into multiple over times, where as regular season games go to a shoot out? Is there a limit on the number of overtimes before a playoff game will go to a shoot out?
or, is the shoot out rule just to get rid of ties in the regular season and it has no effect on playoffs at all? 4/22/2006 1:28:48 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
Shootout rule has no effect on the playoffs. In the playoffs, if a game is tied after regulation, there is a full length intermission, and then a full length period, with sudden death. Repeat as necessary. 4/22/2006 1:36:08 PM |

Anyone who isn't thinking this Devils will win this first round against the Rags hasn't been paying attention to the Devils nor have they watched the last few Devils/Rangers games where the Devils dismantled them.
I am really wanting Ottawa to do well in the playoffs and choke like they always do.
P.S.- Fuck the Rangers and P. "Goon" Flyers. 4/22/2006 3:38:17 PM |

Not really. I mean they've never lost a playoff series to New Jersey.. EVER. Too bad it's been 9 years since they last were in the playoffs though
Anyway, I'm going to go down as much liquor as I can and maybe when I sober up the game will not have happened (actually I'm going to the Canes game but that sounded better..) 4/22/2006 5:39:28 PM |

He just laid there for three minutes. That was an awesome hit.
So:
1) Ottawa Senators vs. 8) Tampa Bay Lightning 2) Carolina Hurricanes vs. 7) Montreal Canadiens 3) New Jersey Devils vs. 6) New York Rangers 4) Buffalo Sabres vs. 5) Philadelphia Flyers
1) Detroit Red Wings vs. 8) Edmonton Oilers 2) Dallas Stars vs. 7) Colorado Avalanche 3) Calgary Flames vs. 6) Anaheim Ducks 4) Nashville Predators vs. 5) San Jose Sharks
Sabres, Red Wings, and Flames win in overtime.
If these results carried the first round, that would setup some interesting second round matchups: Senators-Canadiens and Red Wings-Avalanche.

Explain the octopus. I know it's something with the number of games required to win is the number of legs on an octopus, but they'd have to win 16 games.4/23/2006 3:42:08 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
Quote : | "The Legend of the Octopus is a sports tradition during Detroit Red Wings home games in which an octopus is thrown onto the ice surface to symbolize good luck during a playoff run. The origins of the activity go back to the 1952 playoffs, when a National Hockey League team played two best-of-seven series — needing to win eight games — to capture the Stanley Cup. The octopus, having eight tentacles, symbolized the number of playoff wins necessary for the Red Wings to raise the Stanley Cup. The team swept the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens en route to winning the championship, as well as winning two of the next three championships.
Since 1952, because the octopi-toss is generally viewed as a successful symbol of good luck, the practice has persisted each year; in one 1995 game, fans threw 36 octopi, including a 30-pounder. In recent years, however, animal rights groups, such as PETA, have objected to the activity, claiming that "flinging an octopus is no more acceptable than hurling kittens and puppies."
The Red Wings' mascot is a purple octopus named Al." |

they forgot to add that the octopuses are dead and are ones gotten at the markets in downtown DET that would otherwise be sold to restaurants
the way it would be the same is if the kittens were dead and were sold as food
