The Office is the worst establishment in Raleigh, hands down.

One time I went there because my friend need a wingman, and I was trying to make conversation with some girls at the bar (while getting absolutely no service at all). And so I finally get them talking, just a little, and ask what they do. They dance...exotically. I was like, WTF...you think you're too good to talk to me and you're a STRIPPER? I've never been back to that place.

Oh, and a woman there likes to dance with the pole in the middle of the dance floor. And she's about 40, unattractive and creepy. WTF, mate?

....

Flying Saucer is a good bar on pint nights. I can't speak about it otherwise, never been any other night.

yes actually, ok mind you-ruckus isn't big but i have had my occasions where i was the only bartender and there needed to be at least 2, and i BUST MY ASS to make sure everyone has gotten a drink or whatever they need, and i don't think i've intentionally made anyone wait any more than 5 minutes. and like i said - ruckus isn't big, but when i say there should have been at least 2, i mean all of the tables and the bar is full and there are 5-6 lines forming up and down the bar....but also i think that because I do that-that's why i usually make a fucking killing in tips......

FYI: Blinco's has half price wings everyday from 4-6.

They're not the best wings in town but they're not bad and they're actually really good if you ask for them "crispy".

I knew as soon as they opened up near my apt that they'd be getting too much of my money.

from my Hi5 thread:

Quote :
"when i go to a bar, i like to sit/talk/drink

not stand/yell/wait in line for 30 minutes to drink
"

and I prefer places where there's ample outdoor seating

and I prefer places where I can wear whatever the hell I want to without feeling the need to sport the button-down and slacks.

don't get me wrong though. there are occasions where i enjoy crowded, trendy bars. but those are few and far between and usually involve my friends' birthdays

i just want to say that the service at Ruckus on Thursday night Pint Night is some of the best I've ever had at a bar. Those bartenders are awesome. They get to you quick and that's why I always throw a tip in the jar. Also the bouncer is a cool guy. I remember one night, my roommate and I were leaving and he said, "drive safely and stay white," while toting his cigarette. Then my roommate said, "oh we'll be working on it." Great laugh for both parties. Only thing that ever happened that went wrong, which was my fault for not yelling loud enough, I asked Joie I believe for a Sam Adams White Ale, and got Red Oak instead. I didn't send it back, b/c I'm not a dick, and plus I looked at it as trying Red Oak for the first time.

shout out to the Ruckus bartenders. they work really hard, and it's definitely a favorite of mine.

When I was in Raleigh, the Saucer was one of my favorites.

But I agree that the Charlotte saucer is much better. Better crowd, service, etc.

I've been heading out to the saucer for about 5 years, and I think their service sucks ass. I'm never rude and always tip at least 20%, and have no problem at other places (except sammy's, durr). Therefore I rarely go these days unless the people I'm with are fucking adamant about drinking there.

The only reason I goto Flying Saucer is British beer.

Their service is crappier than a public toilet in Calcutta.

^ haha, what did they expect, for you to bring your own toilet paper, haha.

you know what, maybe it's like a game to them. they're seeing how bad of service they can provide to people, and see how well they can still do b/c they have one of the best selections of beer in Raleigh.

it's like the Soup Nazi Seinfeld episode. he was incredibly rude, but his soup was so good that people still went there to get the soup.

If you think about it... Service is what you make of it! If you are a pain in the ass to wait on then most likely your waiter/waitress/bartender will be an pain right back. Then there are some who just take it as.... "It happends" Maybe if some of you pretentious children would just take a couple of months out of your lives and worked in the service industry you might get a better feel for your server, and what he or she goes through on a daily basis. All of the girls at the Saucer are DOLLS. And just like any other girl they all have their days. Mindy IS the girl with the blonde on the bottom and the dark hair on top. No she's not asian and has a whit about her that not everyone understands. No matter who or where you frequently drink remember the person helping you get "wasted" they have bills to pay that's why they are there.

I stated in this thread that I am a nice guy and I am the understanding type. Also I am a good customer, that tips regularly. If I say the service sucked, then you can count on it. I'm not a pain in the ass to anyone, and this bartender was rude to us from the first second. If he had a bad customer(s) before us then I'm sorry he got a douche for a customer, but that is no reason to take it out on us.

Hey I'm the damn customer. I deserve to be waited on, that's what the industry is all about. Providing service to the customer, and preferably without an attitude. If they can't take the stress of the job then they shouldn't be in it. Besides if you're good enough at it it will pay nicely, b/c of all the tips that they will get. The job description of a server/bartender is provide great service to the customer. Now let's do a comaparison. The job description of a doctor is to provide health care and make the patient better. Now if the doctor does a marginal job at this you bet your ass that the patient is going to be mad.

I just want to stress something Krista said way up there... you know there are servers there, so why sit down at one of their tables with beer in hand and expect someone to come running up eager to see what else they can get you? Each table in a server's section at any bar, restaurant, whatever represents the rent, tuition, car payment, etc that they have due. In a situation like the Saucer where people get beers from the bar and take up a server's table, you should think about that.

Considering its not a college dive bar, the prices aren't that bad at all.

we have probably 8 cases or so lying around (#9 and variety pack)"

Danielle, I'm driving down from NYC Memorial Day weekend, if there are any varieties of Magic Hat you want me to grab, let me know. And yes its become my favorite beer up here

I've never had bad service. Sure I've had plenty of times where it took forever for the waitress to bring me my beer out on the patio, but when the place is jam packed you can't do anything about that.

oh jeez, do you all read any of what i wrote. ok when i first get there, why not go grab a beer at the bar really quickly? then go find a table. there's no reason why a long time after i've finished my beer i shouldn't have a waitress come up and ask me if i need another. i don't expect them to come up to me while i've got a full beer, but most other places i've been to the waitresses will ask you if you want another beer when you're nearly done with your beer or done with it. that night we waited there for quite awhile just to see how long it would take for a waitress to come up to us. a more than generous time was given to them, and my friends finally got fed up and went straight to the bar.

Quote :

this is why they should be more eager to serve you. just b/c someone gets their first beer from the bar before feeling the place out doesn't mean they won't welcome the chance for the waitress working the table they sit at to get them the rest of their beers. if i wanted to order only from the bar i'd sit at the bar or stand somewhere. also i've repeated a number of times that this was not a packed out night. there were a number of empty tables on the inside and the outside.

the bottom line is i'm not going to wait around for longer than 15-20 minutes or more waiting on a waitress to ask me if i want a beer, if i could just go up to the bar and get it faster, especially if the place isn't even really that busy.

^I still don't get it. Why go to the bar in the first place? However, it is another story if you sit at a table and the server takes forever to come greet you. All in all, this is probably an issue that only a fellow service industry employee would understand

It all depends on the situation, really.

Yes, a waitress should go greet the table within a reasonable amount of time after you sit down- I agree with this 100%. However; on Monday nights after 11pm this might not happen due to the sheer number of people in there. While you may be a good customer by only drinking one beer at the bar and wanting the waitress to wait on you after that, MOST PEOPLE (esp. on Mondays) don't give a shit about being waited on they just want somewhere to sit.

Even though I rarely go from bar to table or visa versa, I do know that the few times I have I ALWAYS let the waitress/bartender know that I will be closing out my tab because I am moving/just moved, etc.

People need to realize that this is also a money issue...the bar will not transfer tabs after a certain point because they lose the tip so it's frusterating for the customer and the waitress to have to deal with that situation.

Again- moral of the story: sit at the bar, OR sit at a table.

If you haven't been greeted by a waitress after 5 minutes, move to another table where the waitress cares about her section. Like I said before, I care A LOT about customer service and it is a shame that so many people don't.

well i never use a tab. i like using cold hard cash, that way i don't have to worry about closing out a tab.

it was my first time in the joint. i wanna grab a beer as quick as possible and feel out the joint to see where i want to sit. whether that be on the outside or the inside. i just don't get why this is such a big fucking deal, and so hard to understand. also again why do people keep bringing up the oh well if it's busy the service will be slower. i'm talking about a non-crowded night. the service should have been better bottom line. i'm a very patient, and understanding person. it takes a good bit to get me mad, let alone mad enough to come post on here and see if i'm not the only one that's had the same problem.
