i thinkt the implied question is 'can he coach WELL' which i dont think there is any evidence to show at this point. he only coached the wolves for 1 yr and only coached the griz for 2 or 3 and obviously neither team was begging him to return and nobody exactly rolled out the red carpet for him to coach another team.

i think it's a great move...yes he didnt have the best season with the grizzlies, BUT they were a fairly new team to the league and look what he's doing now. He's with the Piston, the best team in the league the past few years, fast-paced, solid defense. If Ced stays, then i think we will be ok.

Ehhh...wrong. He loved Larry Harris and Herb. Them leaving was the last thing that held him back.

BTW...you guys are forgetting Lowe coached the T-Wolves too. He pretty much sucked ass there too.

I'll be optimistic with this hire because I think he'll bring a lot of energy to the program. HOWEVER, there is nothing on his resume that should get anybody excited about him being here other than the fact that he played at State.

I don't know if he's gotten Larry Harris on the staff or not (which doesn't matter with Ced, b/c he's already got an agent).

I have heard this is going to be an interesting staff though. There should be a few surprises. You have to take in account that you mostly sign head coaches at other schools that bring their whole staff over...or at least guys who have had college coaching jobs before and have favorite assistants. Lowe cannot bring in NBA assistants. He has been told that he will have to bring in big-time college assistants who know the college recruiting world and have connections...WE WILL FAIL BIG TIME WITHOUT THAT. These assistant hires should be interesting.

As far as this hire...I mean it's not bad, but it sure as hell isn't a solid hire. The guy hasn't coached a day in college (not even as an assistant if I'm not mistaken). Each prior head coaching job he had prior to this was HORRIBLE. Career winning percentage just above .25??? The only good thing on his resume is the assistant's job at Detroit.

That being said...I have heard he was a good coach. He was put in bad situatious in both his head coaching positions...and a lot of those results have to do with shitty players and bad management. Either way...he hasn't shown anything at the college level and not much at the pro level.

Bottom line...it's an extremly risky hire.

^yeah, i want harris for recruiting reasons and ties with current players more than anything. to me it's been a forgone conclusion that ced isn't coming back. and fwiw, i heard that lowe's tenure with the grizzlies were some of the better years they've had, even with the losing.
