I don't get why MLB needs to specifically list banned substances that are already covered by the laws of our country? Or am I talking out my ass here?

i guess it was ok to use amphetamines even though they were illegal by United States law, yet since baseball didnt explicitly test for them, it doesnt matter he was breaking a US law

hey the Canadian Football League doesnt drug test...I guess if their players shot heroin it would be ok, cause even though heroin is illegal in Canada, its not explicitly referenced in the CFL rules

holy shit some people

Steroids are a performance-enhancing drug. Heroin is not.

MLB chose not to ban and test for steroids. At best, MLB was indifferent about them. However, since they actively chose to ignore them (while knowing they were heavily being used), MLB elected to make baseball a steroid-fueled sport.

Anyone angry at Bonds for using steroids that is not equally enraged at MLB has their anger misplaced. Otherwise, you are just upset because you don't like the guy, and he has been a better home run hitter than the steroid-using ballplayers you like.

What you're not understanding is that for a while if you were rooting for anything baseball, you probably were rooting for a cheater.

But no one ever talks about that, so Bonds is going to get throw under the bus, because he's far less likeable than McGuire, Sosa, Palmeiro, Giambi, etc.

Bonds isn't the only slugger who's juiced, but I'm not convinced that McGwire was. McGwire was on andro, which isn't that much different from steroids if you take big enough doses of it, but it is legal. I have my doubts that he was on illegal steroids, though, because I don't know why you'd take both...if you're gonna take illegal steroids, even if you're going to stack them, I don't know why you wouldn't just stack 2-3 different illegal ones.

Nail. Head.

It sounds stupid but what you wrote is true. Congress has bent over backwards to accomodate MLB in the past. Hell, read up on MLB's immunity from Anti-trust laws if you didn't know that..

McGwire wasn't on andro. no self-respecting athlete would use andro instead of the real deal. besides, andro has a nasty habit of bloating the shit out of the person with an extra 20lbs of water weight. Unless he was taking heavy diuretics before every photo shoot, he did not have the common bloat that heavy andro use will cause. Mcgwire was most likely on winstrol and deca-durabolin - both anabolic steroids.

Andro just made a nice coverup article for his success during the home run era.

Yea, but the squeakiest wheel always gets the grease. It's like at my office. The hours worked policy is quite liberal. But when one guy starts working 32 hr weeks and dragging the rest of us down, well obviously he gets talked to first.

The US lets illegals freely come into the country. Should I be as upset at the US for lax policies as equally as I am for the scumbags that are profiteering off of packing people in trailers and shipping them across?

your analogy doesn't work for MLB and steroids. the MLB openly encouraged steroid use with their testing policies. Most of the guys admitting to their steroid use are claiming that deca-durabolin was their poison of choice. that shit stays in your system at detectable levels for 18 months or more. NO tested athlete would use it. By simply admitting to using this drug, they are admitting that there has been no real steroid testing in MLB.

If you look at the sports that actually do olympic drug testing, such as the Olympic games and the NFL, you'll notice all the guys that test positive show up for drugs that clear the system quickly, such as testosterone, winstrol, and dianabol. no one in their right mind would use the chemicals that have been admitted to in MLB if they thought they might actually get tested.

The point is MLB cheated...and Barry Bonds happened to hit the most home runs (and also happens to be an asshole). The love of "the game" and desire to hate Bonds is what makes this difficult for many people to rationalize. Yes Barry cheated, but in a world in which cheating was rampant he ruled the game.

Playing by the rules in sports is un-American though. Taking steroids to get an edge over everyone else is about as American as you can get, because this country is built around the concept of taking pills to fix what genetics gave us. You want to lose weight? take a pill. You're having trouble coping with depression? take a pill. you want to get an erection? regrow hair? stay up later? God forbid you actually have to fucking work for anything anymore. Barry Bonds is only guilty of playing by the rules MLB put out in front of him, and being black. If he had been the white poster child for MLB, they would have built a state of liberty type tribute to him out in the San Fransisco Bay.

so how much of a race issue is it gonna be when he is chasing hank aaron

and the "this country is founded on" topic...yeah lots of diet pills and rogaine and viagra when the country was founded, let alone when ruth and aaron were playing in their respective eras

your boy bonds is a cheater so just blame somebody else cause bonds is the real victim here right

apparently you didnt hear about his grand jury testimony...apparently aside from being guilty of playing by the rules MLB put out in front of him, he's also guilty of using steroids, since he admitted that he used steroids<!--

MLB didn't even test for steroids until they held a congressional hearing about them. They were throwing away samples before and not following Olympic testing procedures like every other major sport does.

no one is making a big deal about bonds passing aaron. they're making a big deal about him surpassing Babe Ruth, who isn't even the record holder. How many sports do people recognize the second best person in besides baseball where the record just so happens to have been broken by a black man.

What I don't understand is why you made this thread now instead of a year and a half ago when it was public information? Instead you make it right as the man is about to surpass Babe Ruth.

no one is making a big deal about him passing aaron because he hasn't done it yet and he's still a couple seasons away based on the way he's hitting this year. they're making a big deal out of babe ruth's record because he's knocking on the doorstep.

thats because he has to pass Ruth first and he's still over 40 homeruns from that...and the same people that dont want Bonds passing Ruth wont want him passing Aaron...why dont you understand that people dont want Bonds passing either of them because he got a bunch of juiced homeruns and Ruth and Aaron didnt

and I made plenty of Bonds threads over the years...I didn't make this one because he is about to pass Ruth, I made this one because he admitted to using steroids

he admitted to beign given steroids 18 months ago. you should have made a thread then. You can keep talking out of your ass, but a black man passing a white superhero is the only premise behind all of the shit talking goin on.

Besides, how can you prove that Hank Aaron wasn't juicing? Steroids were definitely around during that period, and they were being used by athletes in football, boxing, and several olympic events. You can put forth all the circumstantial evidence you want to, but neither Hank Aaron nor Barry Bonds have ever failed a drug test.

I won't pull the race card then, because it won't be a big deal on national televion when it occurs. They won't stop national television when it happens in the same fashion that they did on all major channels with Mark McGuire hit his 63rd homer for 1998.

yeah because they wouldnt have stopped it if Sosa had beaten Maris' single season RECORD (notice I said RECORD and not 2ND PLACE) before McGwire

gosh I mean pulling the race card is convenient because you can make a half assed argument with zero facts or validity, but god damn do you honestly believe this shit? have you not seen plenty of black athletes publicly criticizing barry bonds? they must be racist too i guess

You can deny it all you want, but I have put forth a ton of facts and you haven't put forth shit. Did you honestly not bother to read the congressional hearing reports when they came out well over a year ago? Or did you just find it necessary to act like this was new information right as he's about to pass the white man's home run record?

by the way i got news for you...THERE IS NO WHITE MAN'S HOME RUN RECORD...HANK AARON BROKE THAT SHIT DECADES AGO

also I think McGwire's record is a fluke also...what do you have to say about that? Probably something to the effect of "if you cant see its all about race, you are an idiot"
