BACKUP PLAN will be the key..
aka adapting when we need to adapt. I forget his name from BC who murdered us on defense and blocks said it best when he said that we only run like 4 plays, and once you figure them out it's easy to play our team.
thats why duke and especially unc do so well against us even if we're good. they prepare well know how to shut down our 4 plays. when our game wasnt working Herb didnt do anything to adapt. when unc has done poorly, Roy gets furious, and will take out all 5 starters to yell at them and get them focused, and change the plan if need be
now with Sid i hope he can adapt... im excited about him from what ive seen so far (not much yet tho)5/11/2006 10:57:12 PM |

^yes....when UCONN ended up winning it all....it was the most bullshit game I've ever seen in my life....Duke did everything but win that game because of the referees if I remember correctly. I had been drinking heavily so who knows though...I was pretty pissed at the time for some reason 5/12/2006 12:50:30 AM |

^Probably because UCONN's men and women's teams were ESPN's Eli Manning/Reggie Bush at that time, and like everyone else, you were sick of hearing about them. 5/12/2006 12:55:28 AM |

Nobody ever answered what I said about defense and scoring not being everything. Campbell was 2nd in the NCAAs in scoring. What a statistic.

say what you want about Sendek and Amato
one thing Amato ALWAYS had over Herb was that he went to State and played for State
Lowe went to State and played for State 5/12/2006 9:41:38 AM |

Exactly.
NC State fans expectations really arent that unrealistic.
No one is saying we have to be on equal footing with UNC and Duke.
No one thinks we will outrecruit those guys.
But,
It is COMPLETELY reasonable to think we might occasionally outplay them.
It is COMPLETELY reasonable to think we should always give it our best shot.
It is COMPLETELY reasonable to want our coach to act like a fucking man instead of shirking responsibility time and time again.
It is COMPLETELY reasonable to demand that we are represented by someone who is passionate about NC State basketball.
If you check Herb's box score you'll see he just went 0/4 with 100,000 fans left stranded on base" |

Not really... he puts the fanbase expectations too mildly. Spend some time on PP, or even here, and you will see they really do expect to be on equal footing with Duke and Carolina.5/12/2006 10:51:29 AM |

People would like to see it, and some do expect it, because we once were even, or above. However, no one expected us to do it immediately. People did understand that with Herb, as consistent a coach as he was (and I did like him), he would never take us to that level. Few coaches can, so he shouldn't really feel that bad about it. 5/13/2006 2:33:43 PM |

herb can get us to the NCAA but I DONT think he has what it takes to win a championship. so its a question of whether the fans are content making it to the NCAA every year only to lose, or get a new coach and have a chance of doing something greater. I think people disliked herb because there wasnt any hope of winning anything big (acc title, acc tourney, NCAA tourney). So herb is like a rut in the road, that will keep you in line but never get you were you want to go. A new coach could make us worse but there is a chance he can make us win something, something that herb in 10 years NEVER did. 5/13/2006 2:56:35 PM |

shut up you whiny ass babies. Who gives a fuck if you supported Herb or not?
It's over. This thread is about the new coach, who we should all support, and be excited about.
STFU about the old coach, grow the fuck up, move on, let it FUCKING GO

Quote : | "It is getting back to being N.C. State again, not some generic version of a college-basketball program run by someone who was the coach at N.C. State but was never truly N.C. State's coach.... ...So N.C. State is replacing a guy who went by the book with a guy who understands the history books, and figured prominently into the best chapters.
Fowler is hiring a guy who understands the lay of the land, who is passionate about the school, and who hates to lose to Duke and Carolina more than he likes to beat Delaware and Clemson.... ...This hire gets a thumbs-up for that reason alone.... ...Maybe, maybe, maybe.
But at least maybe is back in the vocabulary again.
Maybe Fowler has dug himself a hole with this hire, given the uncertainty of Lowe's ability to recruit and run an elite program against elite competition.
But if that's true, Lowe isn't a bad guy to be in a foxhole with." |
