Russian Hill has a very nice view of San Francisco. It depends on which side ur apatment stands on, but usually the view from bay bridge to Fisherman's Warf is very very beautiful. When I lived in the bay area, I often went to Russian Hill to see some nice view. It was a good exercise to walk from Market St to Russian Hill. I would put a pic of the view from Russian Hill if I had it on this comp..

But Living on Russian Hill must be expensive!

I would recommend you to live somewhere around Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Orinda etc. Berkeley is college town, but the areas listed above are mix of young professionals, students, and families. Or if you wanna live closer to the city, you may be interested in areas around SFSU.

heh, even i'm not that gay to live in the castro. well, maybe i am, but i don't necessarily want that for myself. i would much rather live in haight or cole valley if i lived in the city. but really, i'd probably end up in east bay with everyone else who could never afford living in the city (except the tenderloin, but that's baaad)

I went to NYC in 2004 after having been to San Francisco nine or ten times, and I remember being surprised at how dirty NY was. I still loved it, big cities are my thing, but I was still a little shocked. But I don't really equate homeless people with a city being dirty. The homeless population of Honolulu is ASTOUNDING. Ala Moana park (which is near Waikiki) is completely full of them. San Fran definitely has its own homeless problem, but it's not the worst I've personally seen.

No, it wasn't as bad as it is in Hawaii. I've fortunately never been stuck in LA or DC traffic. I had never been to California the first time I was in San Diego, and I remember getting on the highway and being the slowest person there while I was doing 80. It wasn't bad or crazy in terms of traffic jams (at certain times here it takes me and hour and a half to drive to work, which is 18 miles away).

I wasn't talking about homeless people. San Francisco is just plain dirty.

Look -- tell me how many big cities you've seen that have a Payless Shoes store right across the street from one of its most upscale hotels. And there are smoke shops on top of smoke shops, and trash in the streets, generally run-down storefronts all down Market.

And that's to say nothing of the open poverty, as you noted. I've never seen anything like it in walking a hundred blocks in Manhattan at various times of day and night.

So i'm thinking that at the end of my stay there I was going to spend 5 days in San Diego and visit the zoo and Sea World and such. There is this 5 day unlimited pass thing for $100, that lets you go freely between the zoo, wild animal park and sea world. Any suggestions?

Sea World is for kids, unless you wanna get drunk off of the free beer samples they give out The Zoo is really cool though and so is Balboa park, if youre down here you should definately check it out. The Wild Animal park is in Escondido which is kinda far from San Diego- like 30 miles, so unless you plan on renting a car or you know people in SD who can drive you around, it's kinda hard to get to. There is a lot of fun stuff to do downtown in the gaslamp, but if that's not your style, there's always the beach and mission bay- which is where I'm usually at during the weekend
