I've got some sort of car related disease that makes me want to 'own' many different vehicles. I've had over 20 in the last few years. There are a few more cars I want to check out, namely a Boxster S or 996, possibly an Audi S4. Depending on how my car budget is doing, I may get an e39 M5 or an e46 M3. The car really doesn't need anything, and if there's any concern that I'm turning the car over due to some problem, feel free to go for a pre purchase inspection, which I'm sure this car would pass with flying colors.

In order to "call someone out on tww", you first need to know something about what they are trying to sell. Your already telling us you don't know shit about cars, expecially higher priced vehicles such as the 5 series bmw. Stick with your cheap honda, toyota, chevy, what ever you own. There's a huge price difference between the 528i and the 540i (like 10-15 grand) since the 528i were the "entry" level 5 series car (if you think ~35-40k as entry lvl).

Also, I'm not a friend of Ahmet, but I do respect him, his knowledge of cars, and his car skills.

A 540i with sports package and 6spd is something else.

i don't think you're a snob, but i do think you're a fucking idiot with too much money and too much free time...that car is NOT the epitome of "fine craftsmanship, good design, safety" and whatever the hell "so forth" is supposed to entail...you can get a supra turbo that's only a year older (i mean, if you want a car that's that old, what's one more year?), it's nearly half a second faster 0-60, and doesn't look so boring...for the money, i'd much rather sport a supra that actually looks UNIQUE (and whose quality/dependability is equivalent)

i am NOT saying the 540i is a piece...it's not - it IS solid, well-made, safe, and a damn fine car to drive...but your attitude makes you one of those people who appreciates a high price tag above everything else

in terms of sedans, i'd agree with them...in terms of what this guy seems to consider important (having a 4-door car doesn't appear to be an issue with him), it is NOT the hottest (or best performing) car for the price imo...but then i don't have gobs of money to drop on the expensive addiction of car buying for the hell of it (i admit it, i'm jealous of the fact that i'm not spoiled and filthy rich with no responsibilities and/or commitments to anyone/anything but myself)

i suppose...after all, going 0-60 in 6 seconds is more thrilling when you've got 4 other people in the car with you...i should have realized that (now, if you're looking for a luxury sedan so you can carry the family - or 4 friends - there are so many other options if your budget is $14k and a 10-year-old car is something you're looking at)

seriously, though, who buys this? who REALLY uses a sedan with these specs? the ONLY reason to buy this particular sedan is so that you can ride around in your penis and show everyone how much money you have (if it was speed, you could do better, and if it's not speed, then why the hell would you pay this much for a decade-old family car?)

btw, like the first 40 postings are of the same two cars... And I don't believe the price of that 98 supra with only 10k miles with mods to support 500hp for 7200? Seems fishy.

Also, all the bmw's higher then the 3 series are targeted for middle-class or higher business men who might have a family or enjoy driving.

Obviously you don't buy a 540 if you're in the market for a hardcore sports car. If you need a largish sedan, but want serious performance (the "executive express"), you'd be hard pressed to beat it.

Seriously...the Blue Book is often not even CLOSE, particularly when it comes to niche market or rare vehicles. Look at MR2 Turbos, for example. mid-90s RX-7s and Supra Turbos used to be WAY off in the blue book, too (it looks like the BB might be figuring the RX-7 thing out...don't know about Supras). Jeeps often sell well above Blue Book, too.
