Seems like X-Men (and especially the new Superman movie coming out) is becoming 7th Heaven, The OC, Everwood, emo, etc. but with mutants. No thanks. 5/26/2006 11:59:41 AM |

It was pretty good.
Like I thought, it was weird to have the girl from Hard Candy all over the place in this.
Set it up well for a sequel.
I didn't wait for the end of the credits, though. Didn't realize they were pulling some Ferris Bueller shit on me. 5/26/2006 1:51:07 PM |

Look y'all here's the main thing, this is why you didn't get the better sequel this could have been.
Bryan Singer decided to go to Warner Bros. and take on Superman because it was his dream project, he was willing to stay and do X-Men 3 after he completed work on Supes.
Fox got pi$$ed off and decided to give the big old 'fuck you' to Singer for "turning his back on them" and rushed this into production so it could be out before Superman.
The reason they killed off Cyclops, and the only reason, was because they didn't want him to NOT be in the movie. But Singer cast James Marsden in Superman and they only had about a week with him to work on X-Men 3, thus they decided to ash him.
When Matthew Vaughn left the project Brett only had 9 weeks to prepare for shooting, which is ridiculous, but Fox wanted it done and it was now or never for Brett to attempt X-Men for which he's a big fan of.
If you really want to put the blame on anyone blame Fox head Tom Rothman - he's the one who wouldn't wait for Singer to come back. 5/26/2006 3:42:23 PM |

I liked it, to say the least. I was disappointed with some of things that happened within the story though.
Cyclops Cyclops Cyclops. Always getting shafted, always. He was only halfway decent in the first movie, disappeared and was a crying baby in the second, and then gets killed off in the first fifteen minutes in this one. He deserved so much better, if only for the reason that if he wasn't gaga over Jean, he was at odds with Wolvie.
Ah yes, Wolvie Wolvie Wolvie. Why couldn't he die instead? I mean, really? Of course, he's the most popular character in the Marvel universe, and there is no way that he would get killed off. I really wish he did though. I haven't read Phoenix Endsong so I don't know how the end of the movie worked in relation to the comic. I don't ever recall Wolvie's healing factor to be quick enough to heal like that. And I really wished that Magneto would rip the adamantium out of him. I hated his role through the movie, and he stole all of Cyclops' potential screentime (Storm did too, that wench).
Angel, a new character. And yet he didn't do diddly. He broke out of the facility, then saves his dad. That's it? That's all he freakin does through the movie?
Iceman is my favorite X-man, and he's capable of so much more. I wish they'd do more action sequences with him, instead of having him shoot ice out of his hands like he was Sub-Zero. The ice skates were a nice touch, but he could build bridges or do ice slides and throw actual ice needles instead. I also wished that when he changed to ice, that he would've been incapable of changing back. Would've at least made the Iceman/Rogue story seem even more bittersweet, as Rogue can now only kiss a block of ice.
I'm sure I'll have more complaints later as they come to me. But really though, I did like the movie. 5/26/2006 3:46:44 PM |

I thought they were going to be really cool there and have Rogue not get the cure then take the story from AoA when Iceman figured out that in his Iced up form he could touch Rogue but no, lets go with something lame instead.5/26/2006 6:05:45 PM |

^ Those aren't her natural powers. In the comics, she absorbed those from somebody else. That just didn't happen in the movies, I guess. She's a n00b.

I'm not saying that I like him. I just don't hate him. And for someone as important as he is, he gets the short end of the stick. But he did have to go film Superman, so I can only hope he might've had a bigger role if it wasn't for that crap. 5/26/2006 9:30:14 PM |

Here's what's going to happen: Jean's going to wake up and find out it was just a really shitty dream and she's never going to do 30 Jell-O shots again, even on a triple dog dare. This will give Magneto the opportunity to piss off Xavier by extracting all the adamantium out of Wolverine and there will be a Super Smash Bros-esque samurai shodown among Apocalypse, Onslaught, and Wolverine. Because you have to have Wolverine. Holocaust will make a long enough appearance for Magneto to make a tasteless joke about . . . something. I'm not sure what yet. Meanwhile, Red & Slim from the future alternate post-apocalyptic reality will help Jean & Scott babysit THEIR NEW BABY they genetically engineered using Mr. Sinister's lab and a few hints from the Full Metal Alchemist. But it turns out Cable is Scott's dad at which point the movie will implode. Fortunately a disconnected ocurrence of the phoenix (non-dark non-hell non-hellfire) force will be around to hit reset on the franchise in time for installment five of THE UNCANNY X-MEN.

exactly. this was one of the closest adaptations from comics to screen i've ever seen, aside from spiderman 2, which also got bashed because people said it was too much like a soap opera. as far as cool portrayals of one-dimensional characters goes, this movie was on point.

we never actually see scott die. plus its a comics movie; anyone can come back at any time.

Colossus was supposed to have a fucking russian accent. This movie would've kicked so much ass if it did.
Oh, and the producers forgot one thing: "NOTHING STOPS THE JUGGERNAUT" -- literally. I mean, wtf at the end.
I was also really disappointed at the end when Wolverine was slashing those guys like they were nothing. I mean.. they're fucking mutants for crying out loud. 8 out of that group of 500 actually used their powers.
Despite all that, this movie still kicks ass and is one of the best I've seen in a really long time. When the juggernaut yeled "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I'M THE JUGGERNAUT, BITCH" people in the theater laughed, but I applauded for a totally different reason... 5/26/2006 10:29:40 PM |
