^^im not even a huge arcade fire fan but they are not even remotely close to anything "emo"; so no offense but I just suggest you drop that point and stick to the movie.

Do they still make "emo?" Is this still a genre?

I was never a huge fan of the book but not because its not great but just because I never really read it much as a kid and haven't since I was a kid so don't really remember it all that much. That said I think the movie looks pretty fun and I'm really glad its guys in costumes and not CGI. I'll probably see it because I'm sure the lady will want to.

I don't think there is anyway to tell that this movie will be bad by seeing that trailer though. What's with these trolls?

PEOPLE, PLEASE LEARN WHAT THE FUCK EMO MEANS BEFORE RANDOMLY BANDYING THE WORD ABOUT!

Quote :
"Emo (pronounced /'i?mo?/) is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore" and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. As the style was echoed by contemporary American punk bands, its sound and meaning shifted and changed, blending with pop punk and indie rock and encapsulated in the early 1990s by groups such as Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate. By the mid 1990s numerous emo acts emerged from the Midwestern and Central United States, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the style."

Not only is The Arcade Fire NOT an emo band (they're more of a rock band, an indie rock band, with some very interesting vocal distortion and instrumentation), they are FAR better than any modern band that would be labelled "emo."

Now, whether they're better than Rites of Spring or Jawbreaker or Sunny Day Real Estate (if you people who are constantly using the word emo even know who these bands are), is not my place to judge.

I've never read this book and know nothing about the story, but that movie looks like it could be pretty good based on the trailer.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. I'm trying to get excited about this like everybody and their grandma is...but I just don't see it happening.

I remember the book as a kid...but not enough to have me freaking out about it now. Oh well...

I'm starting to get the feeling that this movie sucks - based solely on how much it is being advertised.

If they advertise it nearly every commercial break a full month or more before it comes out I can't help but think that it will suck. They are basically counting on opening weekend to make 90% of their take because they know once word of mouth hits they're done.

Not saying that this is the case with WtWtA, but if they don't release the movie to critics I'll definitely know.

You don't understand how spamming the airwaves with commercials and not releasing a movie to the critics might indicate that a movie sucks?

The critics thing is obvious. Maybe the commercial thing is just me. Pretty much what I said. They are trying to get as many people to watch on the opening weekend because they know no one will go after the initial wave goes and reports back.

Probably me, but there's a lot of good movies that I've never seen the first commercial to, and there are a lot of bad movies where they show a commercial twice per commercial break. It may just be the case where everyone already knows about a "good" movie's release, so there's no need to advertise as much.

Yeah wtf are you even talking about.

This is a big budget big studio movie distributed by Warner Bros.

Of course it's going to get a metric fuckton of advertising.

Regardless of quality.
