seems more gay to actually care if someone thinks your ride is gay.

hey, i know you have been crushed...

but are you saying you have never seen a 911 turbo, or a viper, or a z06, or an f430, or an sl55 amg, or an sl600, or an e55 amg, or a murcielago, or a gallardo, or a diablo, or a... or a... etc?

Jeez guys.

The new M5 is a gorgeous car.

Why is everyone getting so defensive?

sure, it is a gorgeous car (non-M5 5-series = ), and it is a great stock performer, but these two statements are false:

i guarantee that car could smoke anything out there with the right driver

Fastest car I've ever seen on the road.

you can say they are his opinions, but those are not opinions, rather, objective statements, and as such, are false. that's all.

ok maybe it was an overstatement, im sorry i hurt the i-know-everything-about-cars people's feelings

allow me to rephrase...

it's the "fastest i've ever seen a car go" on the road.

You can't prove:

Fastest car I've ever seen on the road.

Is false.

yeah i met this guy on monday....so let me tell you guys the story

So I was cruising back to work form lunch down Glenwood approaching Brier Creek when I see this E60 5 series gaining on me FAST...I mean real FAST. As soon as he passes me I know it's the new M5...he had it WOT and it sounded so mean. Really guys this car in stock form has a real nice sound from that V10. So I down shift to 3rd and punch it. I shift through the gears and he is still leaving me fast, both of us weavinh in and out of traffic...meanwhile I'm approaching 120mph on Glenwood. Luckily he get stopped at the light right there at Brier Creek so I pull up beside him, shoot the shit, talk about his car for a sec, he compliments mine..blah blah. Then this older, I'd say late 90's, WS6 pulls up behind the M5 and starts reving his engine. It's obvious he has an aftermarket exhaust and who knows what other mods....this thing sounds bad ass. Light turns green and we all punch it. DAMN...I got fuckin' smoked but so did the WS6. That M5 just took off. He must have been doing 130mph by the time he went through the yellow light at TW Alexander. Both the WS6 and I got caught at the light. We both were amazed at how fast that sedan took off and tlaked for a bit. Light turns green and we go our seperate ways. So that's my getting smoked by an M5 story!

It was stupid but at this point I was past any traffic so the road was clear and there was on M5 clearing the way. I was just trying to catch up.

^^^was his m5 silver?

^^that stretch past briar creek is perfect for going 100+ for a few seconds because it's wide open and you can see pretty far down the road, it's not like he was just cruising at 120 on his way to bojangles or something

^didn't he say E60, and isn't E60 the new one?

I'm aware that the previous generation was 6sp. However I'm not very in the know with model designations of the M models.

i believe that the new M5's can come in a 7 speed manual. while at the light he was definately pushing in the clutch and rocking the car if you know what i mean. i don't know what you really call that but it's when you push in the clutch and roll back and then move forward again and then roll back...etc.

dude it didn't choke out but it was lurching like someone who can't drive a stick would drive....

like driving at around 25 in 1st gear and stabbing at the pedal.

i know its an smg with paddle shift and a million settings i'm just telling you i saw a retard almost choke one out.

The new M5's feature a SMG transmission. The NA market was going to get a 6spd manual (maybe 7?) due to customer feedback but I don't know if they ever did.

the reason they have the 7 speed smg is because the gears are arrainged based on strength of the gear box, not a logical pattern, so there is no way you could manually shift without fucking it up

^ Yes you do.

I'm sure I could try the same thing with photos from your gallery, but then I wouldn't know why they were in there to begin with. Add another to the idiot list.

For now the M5 is only available with the SMG. However in the near future it will be available in the US with the traditional 6sp manual.

Driving an E60 M5 is interesting. It has an automatic mode, but when you put it in Drive and let off the brake, it doesn't coast forward and it will actually start rolling backwards like a manual car except you don't have a clutch to modulate it with. You kind of have to let off the brake and jam on the gas at the same time, which is probably why the M5 you saw lurched. I guess you could also pull Schumacer style with one foot on the brake and one foot on the gas, but it wasn't my car and that takes a lot of practice and habit breaking. The manual will be available for 2007.
