The whole notion that you "need" good credit (or any credit) is a myth.

Just got mine checked the other day so I could get qualified for a house loan... 782

Sad part is I probably won't be able to afford the mortgage on the house that I wanted

There are three agencies that must give you one freebie a year. So you can compare all of them now or get a different one every 4 months.

I know, right? It's not like it affects your insurance premiums or ability to get some jobs or anything.

i disagree. good credit is very helpful in getting a home loan. all the people i talked to said a credit score of over 720 will get you the absolute best rate they can offer. my score (769, to respond to the thread) resulted in my not having to submit a lot of paper work for my loan application...instead of 12 months of pay stubs, bank account statements, etc...all i had to do was fill out the application and submit a copy of my driver's license.

^^ I won't say its a myth, but I think people stress out about this waaaaaaaaaay to much. Used common sense and be responsible and your credit score will be fine.
